If you want a truly immersive experience....PROJECTOR for the win!!! (And you have the optimal conditions to have that experience - no windows equate to complete light control = your own personal theater experience without the sticky floors and annoying people around you talking too damn loud during the most important dialogue sequences, LOL!)...

I too am beginning my Man Cave rebuild...already have my 'reference area' which houses my 4k setup...Next up: RE-DESIGN my projector space....the wifey agrees that we can find a way to let the kids still have their area in the 'man cave' while I re-claim my projector space...

My debate now: to go 120" or push it even larger....

The problem with projectors the contrast sucks. My best friend has a 100 inch projector at home. Once you go projector you lose deep blacks and sharpness. And, 4K projectors cost a pretty penny, but gaming on a huge screen like that is immersive and can be pretty cool especially for sports games. I personally prefer the sharpness and contrast of flat panels over projectors.

Maybe your friend probably had a crappy projector. The screen also matters.

I believe it's a 1080p epson, but I've seen many projectors in my lifetime. I don't think you'll ever get the level of sharpness and contrast you get on a flat panel compared to a projector.

I'll be getting a 4K projector with a 130,000:1 contrast ratio later this month. Not gonna lose anything at all.

What brand and model? I'd like to show it to my friend who's been looking for a 4K projector that won't break the bank.

Are you gonna roll with the Epson 5040UB?

I'm not sure how many more years till my Epson 8350 will need to retire....Look forward to seeing your review once you get your 4K projector....

It's a JVC 770. I never said it wouldn't break the bank, it goes for around $7K

7K is hardly breaking the bank, but I guess that's subjective.

It ain't exactly chump change for sure.

I've never really ever considered a projector. I'm assuming there's a minimum spacial requirement for a nice setup.

Me personally there's no way I'm spending that much on a projector or tv. My limit for a tv is 4k. At this point anything over 4k it's not so much about being able to afford it, it's more about me not feeling any tv is worth that price. I wouldn't feel right spending anything over that for any tv or projector. With that said projectors perform better in dark rooms preferably no windows. Most people hang their projectors from the ceiling and THX recommends for a 100 inch screen you should sit 10 feet away. This may seem too close for some people. As long as you have a decent sized room you can pull it off. I'm sure gaming on a huge 4k projector is great.

I've seen a lot of projectors as well and I've never seen any that can match a TV. But I've heard a lot of people say they are out there so I harbor hope...

It seems like the LG OLED (2016 models) are going on sale again. New models must be close to a street date.

They don't really do basements in Arizona, so I'd never have enough of a light controlled room to do a projector, and doubt it'd ever make sense.

I can see in a perfect theater type environment, a really good projector would be awesome. In my situations though a nice regular tv would make more sense.

I also couldn't justify crazy money on anything right now, but that's just our current situation too.

I'm wondering how some games like Battlefield 1 that don't use HDR still manage to be so bright with like the sun highlights. I know Battlefield 1 isn't HDR enabled, or at least it doesn't come up as so on my TV but it sure has bright moments in the game.
