Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

I don't think there is a debate between the LG and the Sony. The LG wins that war rather easily--except for game mode being too dim. You can search "LG game mode too dim" and you will find numerous links--include a couple of articles written by Forbes. Here is an example: http://www.mweb.co.za/games/view/tab...re-update.aspx

Again, if game mode weren't too dim then I would have bought a second one for gaming. Instead, I bought the Sony. The Sony is really, really good but the LG picture is in another league.Last edited by drsonoma; 01-02-2018, 12:20 AM.Comment

What settings are you using while playing the Show on your x930e? I'm assuming youre playing on PS4 Pro as well? ThanksI don't think there is a debate between the LG and the Sony. Yes, I am on the Pro. Just regulat game mode with no settings tweaks. I have the game set to 4k HDR witb enhanced visuals. Make sure you are connected to HDMI 2 or 3 and that those are set to enhanced as well.Comment

Oh man, that is torturous to read. I really would like to have that OLED but I am in a bright room during the day and need a bright game mode.I don't think there is a debate between the LG and the Sony. Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

As I mentioned before, I originally upgraded from my old Samsung 4K TV to the LG B7. This was based on what I read online on a few sites, claiming that OLED was the way to go when purchasing a new TV. Upon hooking everything up and firing up my PS4 Pro, I was very disappointed with how dark everything was. I returned this TV and picked up a 49inch Sony X900E. This was way better when it came to playing on the Pro with HDR, everything was much brighter. I decided to return this one last time and go up a size to 55 inches, but instead I purchased the 55 inch X930E. I've only used it for a little while, but so far it is awesome. Ill definitely be keeping this TV and I'm happy with my decision.

So if gaming is your main concern when looking for a new TV, especially with HDR, I would highly recommend the Sony over the LG OLED.Comment

Man this is bad. I want to make the jump to OLED but won't until I hear this isn't an issue on future models. LG did this intentionally. I wonder if the picture too bright was causing burn in or other issues and forced them to change it.I don't think there is a debate between the LG and the Sony. Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

All of those articles are in reference to the 2016 models that needed a firmware update to reduce input lag but also change image quality. I don't think they pertain to the 2017 models. I like Scott, have no problems with a dim HDR game mode in my 2017 65" B7.

Could be that those thinking it is too dim watch TV in "torch" mode so anything else would seem dim in comparison.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

If I play videos I recorded through a phone, will that count towards my internet data? Obviously youtube and netflix will use up data, but just want to see if the same might happen with videos(and photos/music) that are already on my phone.Comment

I think it just streams over wifi from your device, but don't put a gun to my head. Someone else may know 100%Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

But streaming over wifi is the same thing though isn't it? Because if it does that, then it means regardless if I'm watching a video on youtube, or a video I recorded that's on my phones storage, it'll both go through my internet and use up that data.Comment

I watch everything else in Cinema Mode and/or use the calibration recommendations from Rtings--so I don't think it is a "torch" mode issue. I am going to hook my PS4 Pro back up to the LG tonight and take some photos. Believe me, I would LOVE for the LG to work in game mode because I love this TV for movie watching and would love to have that amazing picture for gaming AND movies. All of those articles are in reference to the 2016 models that needed a firmware update to reduce input lag but also change image quality. Do you use your X930E for any TV viewing? Trying to lock down the best settings for watching cable TV, sports, etc.I watch everything else in Cinema Mode and/or use the calibration recommendations from Rtings--so I don't think it is a "torch" mode issue.
