Looking to buy a Smart Roku TV for my bedroom... I am looking at the TCL 40S305 40-Inch 1080p and TCL 43S517 43-Inch 4K. Anyone have either of the sets. The price difference is around $185. Just not sure if 4K is worth the price difference when dealing in this size range.

      Comparison ratings between the two.

What TV do you have now? What type of gaming do you do? It sounds like you might just be better off buying a Fire Stick or Roku and using it on your current TV.

I current don't have any TV in my bedroom. My gaming/movie TV is a 65" LG C7. I am just looking for a smart TV to watch from time to time in bed. Tired of watching on my phone...

Ah. Well than I'd say get the cheap 1080p one if it's just for bed watching.

I have spectrum cable and roku has the spectrum app so I can watch all my cable channels in the bedroom. NOTE: I don't have a cable jack in the bedroom and I prefer not to have a bunch of remotes just to watch TV.

I have a 4K TCL Roku TV on the wall in my bedroom and also have Spectrum. The app is perfect for the reasons you mentioned. Same setup basically, it's convenient & awesome.

Why limit yourself to 3 TV's though? Just get a Roku box...

The TCL 517 is the 3rd highest rated TV on rtings for 40 - 43 inches and it has built in Roku so I think that makes the most sense. The Samsung is $50 more expensive plus I have to buy a Roku and then have to deal with 2 remotes.

I haven't looked into TV technology in since buying my last one about 4 years ago, and I see that the technology has really changed since my basic LED.

I'm moving into a new house next month and looking for a new toy. I'm set on a Samsung just a question of which one.

I'm currently eyeing these two, but I can't really tell what the difference is

The only real difference I can see are slightly different designs and the Q7FN has something called HDR Elite as opposed to just HDR on the Q6FN. I can't find anything that actually tells me what "HDR Elite" is though. Anyone know the difference between these two technologies? I'm willing to spend the extra money if it's truly a nicer TV I just don't know.

Go with the Q8 instead since it's only like $200 more.

As far as I can tell the Q8 and the Q9 are just larger versions of the Q6 and the Q7, unless I'm missing something? It's also quite a price jump going from a 65" Q7 at $2100 vs. the cheapest Q7 being a 55" curved TV at $3K.

Have any idea what the real difference is as you step up through the Q models? Maybe I could swing a Q8 or a Q9 if the tech under the hood really is that much superior.

Look here, you can compare the models. Q8 is the best all around. Q7 is better than the Q6 if you watch Sports or TV. If you mainly watch movies and don't get the Q8, Q6 is about the same as Q7.

The Samsung Q8F / Q8 is a 2018 QLED TV with great picture quality, especially in a bright room due to the high peak brightness and excellent reflection handling....

100% incorrect. Q6 and Q7 are edge lit, while the Q8 and Q9 are full array, which will result in better black levels and just better picture quality overall.

Ah thanks. I was wondering if QLED still suffered from edge lit vs. full array.

                                Appreciate the advice.

edit - dang. As I'm doing some further research it seems like OLED is actually better technology over QLED. I was set on Samsung due to a friend's employee discount but now I'm going to have to figure out which is the best buy.
