edit - dang. As I'm doing some further research it seems like OLED is actually better technology over QLED. I was set on Samsung due to a friend's employee discount but now I'm going to have to figure out which is the best buy.
It's about what the TV looks like, not the best hardware. Sure you want to future proof it with supported stuff, but once you buy it, it isn't going to change.

Is OLED better than LED, sure, but Plasma was better than LCD. Samsung is doing great things with QLED. Unless you are going to the LG C8, the Samsung Q9 is probably the best TV out now.

Even though OLED is a newer/better technology, there are still other things that make the picture look good. So the screen is a huge part of a TV, it isn't everything. OLED won't automatically be better than LED.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

I just moved back in to my parent's house to save money for grad school and I'm looking at buying a new television for myself this month. I'm deciding between the 55" TCL 5 series ($480) or the 6 series ($650). I'm mostly going to use it to watch sports (NFL, MLB, NBA, etc.), occasionally Netflix and PS4 (regular, not Pro).

Do you guys think I should go with the 5 series of the TCL or the 6 series? I know that the 6 series has what's called the "CCZ technology", but I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference between each. However, I do have the extra money to pony up another $100 to pay the difference- just not sure if it's worth it.

Also, do you guys recommend I order this TV online or should I go to Best Buy and buy it? I'm worried that it could get damaged in the truck / en route to my house. The nearest Best Buy that has these TVs are about 30-35 miles away from me.

In all honesty, there's a reason the TCL tv's are cheap. Bad build quality overall. We sell a lot of them at Best Buy and we have received a good amount of them back.

Which TV would you recommend then? My budget is around $700-800.

If you stretch it to say $899, you could go with the NU8000, which would be a great one. Native 120hz panel, ability to do over 1 billion plus colors.

The Samsung NU8000 is a versatile 4k LED TV with good picture quality and HDR support. It also has great motion handling, as only a short trail follows fast movi...

Ok OS tv gurus I need your help.

I’m looking for a new tv strictly for gaming that is 4K with HDR. I don’t want to spend a lot of money because again this tv will be used only for gaming (I don’t watch movies)

I am ignorant when it comes to TVs and this QLED/OLED/LED stuff.

I just want a good tv, at a fair price that has a good lifespan

Thanks in advance for any and all help

Don't just dismiss TCL because of some returns. Yes they are a budget brand, although trying to sell higher priced ones now. They may not be as consistent as the higher priced TVs, so you may end up with one that you need to return. Retailers understand this and make it easy, even with Amazon.

I used Amazon on the last TV I bought and I returned 2 of them because of vertical banding problems. This was a large TV that had to be hand delivered and it didn't cost me anything.

Look at rtings and read the reviews of what you are looking at. You can compare them or use one of the guides for the different things they have, price, usage, etc.

For TCL, saw rtings recently made a video for all their models comparing them.

After owning an OLED it’s very hard for me to go back to LED, but if gaming is going to be done the most on it I’d go with an LED.

Samsungs can downsample to 1440p at 120hz and give you an input lag of 10.8 ms. No other TV can do that.

For console gaming 120htz means nothing. 20ms is still fantastic, zero blooming, way better motion handling and the picture which is the most important is unmatched.
