Hopefully Scott can weigh in on this.
It must be on High to get the best contrast and dimmming of the FALD, turning it off means you are just using an edge lit type panel.

For gaming you can do High and if you feel you lose details in dark scenes in movies you can put it at medium but never ever ever ever ever turn it off

Black Detail, Active Full Array, and Clear Action

      Black Detail should be OFF

Active Full Array should be High or medium if you find dark scenes to lose details but never OFF

      Clear Action OFF

        Thank you. Got it.

The picture is looking great so far. I've had to mess with regular TV shows more than anything because I just can't seem to get them right. But I think I'm close. I turned the temp to cool for TV and it seems to have helped. But I prefer Normal for Netflix type stuff.

As far as gaming. I put it on game mode and didn't really have to mess with much. I turned the back light up pretty high and bumped up the contrast a bit and wow. Madden looks like a totally different game in true HDR. Also NBA 2K looks great. I rarely play FPS games so I'm not too worried about input lag. Didn't notice any issues just playing those games.

And the black levels on this tv are amazing. Coming from an edge lit lower end Samsung. It's night and day.

As far as the 120hz Xbox support, I'm not sure. Congrats and enjoy your new TV brother.

This is the list of Only TV's that support XBOX Dolby Vision which IMO sucks.

Dolby Vision is a colour space correct? I know the Vizio supports both flavours I can't recall the other version's name.

I don't understand the 120hz stuff - is the concensus that if you use input 5 you can have 120hz but no 4k and no hdr?

I look at the inputs and see the supported resolutions but don't understand seems confusing.

This is gonna be hard to explain, but as I sit here watching football I am seeing some weird stuff going on with the grass and sometimes in wider shots. Like the grass is flickering or blocking or some "noise" or something like that.

I am using DirecTV Now so I don't know if it could be a source issue. Everything else looks great, motion is amazing and upscaling looks good. I haven't really noticed this issue on anything else I've watched.

It doesn't really bother me that much, but just wondering if something like this is normal or not.

And also is it normal to have a little dirty screen effect? I did a test and saw a little bit popping up.

Edit: I just read that the grass issues in football games aren't the TV. I remember it now with my old TV but I thought it was judder or stutter or something so I wasn't expecting it.

It said it was something about how the camera tries to show each pixel and it can't keep up or something.

Are you thinking of just HDR10?

And that's right with HDMI 5. 1-4 do 4K HDR 60hz. 5 also has lower input lag, but I've found no input lag issues in port 1 with my Xbox.

I'm not subscribed to this thread so I don't notice updates in it often, but I caught wind of the 120Hz vs 60Hz debate and wanted to chime in.

                    1) I think there is a huge visual difference between watching something in 60Hz versus 120Hz. Personally, I despise the latter with the soap opera effect. For gaming, though? If games create those frames for themselves and no lag is introduced (especially from monitors), then I'll take 120Hz or 144Hz no problem.

                    2) 120Hz native televisions are good for watching films in their natural 24 FPS, because 120 is five multiples of 24. In order for 60Hz native screens to achieve the effect, instead of repeating the same frame five times in a second, for every two seconds they have to repeat one of the frames twice and another one of the frames three times, causing choppy judder. This is one strong benefit to advocate for 120Hz-native screens.

Regardless, the reason I still own a plasma is because I love the motion on this thing and I can't deal with the motion blur of LED's. Even OLED's are a bit jarring in motion for me still. It's going to take a long time for me to upgrade at this point. I still haven't found a set that wowed me to bother changing from what I won't ever be able to get back again in this Samsung F8500. I have 12,226 hours on my set, and I bet that I can still sell this for nearly $1000 down the line because of the rarity of these (I'm probably overshooting on that asking price at this point, but oh well). Just depends on how much longer it will last.

If you're worried about motion, just do a Sony OLED. Mine handles motion perfect.

^ As I said, I've watched OLED's in action, sports and movies alike. I haven't been as pleased as I have been with my plasma still when it comes to motion, and that's a huge thing for me.

Also I just don't need a new television right now. I'm comfortable waiting and waiting for these devices to figure out what they're going to introduce next and at a cheaper price. I don't even have a UHD player (blame Sony for not including it in the Pro).

I do have a 4k player but Sony cost them selfs a pro sale by not including it in the pro I would have gotten one if it had a 4k player in it.

Why do it when instead they just sell you a stand alone player? Look at it from a business standpoint.

Nothing beats a plasma for how it handles stutter. The OLED tvs from Sony and LG are fantastic with motion and provides clean images free of motion blur but then again some like that blur and Plasma tv's never had issues with stutter in 24p content or fast moving camera pans. OLED and QLED still have major issues with stutter in 24p content. They are not close to PLASMA in that sense but motion is different than stutter. Plasma has no stutter and is clean as where OLED and QLED suffer from stutter in 24p content
