I would love if they had like a 37", that would probably be perfect, just afraid 43" is going to be too big for my viewing distance for work.

Should I go with the CX or an Asus ROG Swift PG43UQ? Thoughts? Thx.

I looked at the Asus too, but the 120hz is only on DisplayPort, and the HDMI is 2.0. I'm sure future version will bump up to 2.1.

The q90t is superior in everyway to the q80r.

Samsung decided to put all their full features on the 8k line so they made q90t the successor to q80r but the q90t is even better then the q90r from last year

Reasons: Why is better then q80r

        Better Contrast
Better Local Dimming (In Game Mode it actually works)
        More zones
        Lower Input Lag
        1x HDMI 2.1
        Superior Motion handling
Ability to full scan non HD channels
        Much brighter
Has a great stand and not peg corner legs like q80r

The q90r from last year has 1 key advantage over the q90t and that is far more dimming zones but at the expense of black crush.

The best 4k HDR Samsung tv is easily the Q90T when you take into consideration next gen consoles.

q90t also has better color gradient

Input lag on the q80r is 14.7ms in Game Mode
Input lag on the q90t is 10.7ms in game mode

And finally the biggest one is q90t has 1x hdmi 2.1 input for next gen consoles or gpu that the q80r does not

I'm just holding out hope for a smallish TV or large monitor (somewhere 43" and below) with HDMI 2.1, actual HDR, and VRR. It's going to be 2021 it appears. Something I won't go blind looking at for work and can game on. The other option is just adding the 48" CX in that same room separate from my work setup.

Anyway, I'd like a similarly-sized LED or OLED for my garage. I think I can only go as large as 27" to fit where it needs to fit.

What's the 4K run on those? Note that I probably won't even be able to take advantage of 4K stuff on there, but whatever. Might as well get the best technology out there, and I'm sure it's cheap regardless.

Hey Scott, I'm back to the drawing board on this. I can't fit a 32" TV because the widest this area in my garage gets is about 26.5" (a 32" screen will likely be about 29" wide or so).

What are the drawbacks of having a monitor serve as a TV? This is going to be the primary function of the device. If it's the no speakers, that's fine because I already have an audio setup. If it's something else like black levels, viewing angle, or contrast ratio compared to that of a TV (or something regarding 60Hz motion), I'm curious to know what would be the drawback here. All I need is a single HDMI input.

Thanks! If monitors don't pan out for any reason, I guess I have to settle for a 27" 1080p LCD/LED.

So depending on the monitor, you may actually have better motion, but the contrast isn't going to be nearly as good. You could possibly have higher resolution than a 24/28" TV also, since most of those aren't even in 1080p. What will you be hooking up to the TV/monitor?

I have a DirecTV Genie capable of 4K output (not sure if they use any), and I hook my laptop to it at times. I could potentially be playing YouTube videos or movies I've ripped to my HDD, mostly Blu-rays. I have some UHD files on here, but without HDR on the monitor that's not much going to matter.

I'm trying to decide whether it's more important to get a 120Hz refresh rate screen simply for optimal 24Hz movie playback (and better motion overall I'm sure, even though I wouldn't turn on any frame interpolation feature) on top of resolution, or whether I can get a TV that has a better overall picture, even if only just at 1080p.

I'll likely be shopping during Black Friday if they get discounted, but I went back to it when I realized how limited the space will actually be.

To utilize 4K/120 hz, I would definitely look at doing a monitor then.

TCL released info on this year's 5 and 6 series TV's. Unfortunately, they took a page from Vizio's M-Series playbook and dropped the 43'' version of their 5 series. So, I ended up pulling the trigger on one of last year's 5s (down to $299 at most retailers if anyone else is interested).

Thanks to those on here who helped guide me in my purchasing decision! This is definitely a friendlier place to ask about TVs than the 4KTV subreddit lol.

TCL is awesome value. I got last year's 6 series when my son broke our older TCL with a hockey puck and it's great. I know it's not as good as everything else more expensive, but I can't really afford the pricey stuff.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

TCL is awesome value indeed! I know it certainly isn't the best panel out there, but it's been more than enough to impress me in the couple of weeks I've had it. For instance, I was watching 42 a couple of nights ago, and even though it was just a 1080p Blu-ray, it looked pretty darn incredible.

Probably the only gripe I have so far is the lack of ports (which, I suppose, was a reasonable trade-off for a TV of this price and size). On that topic, I had one more question for the OS TV thread: does anyone have experience or recommendations regarding HDMI switches?

Ideally, I'd like to have a 4K Blu-ray player and soundbar connected directly to the TV, and my consoles hooked up to a switch. Two switches that have caught my eye are this one from Amazon and this one from Monoprice.

Also, not sure what the deal is with that Amazon link. For some reason, it wouldn't blend into the text the way the Monoprice one did.

If you want a monitor for tv watching or movies the best bet is a samsung VA panel. Great contrast and black levels for a monitor and remember that the lower the response time the greater chance of judder during 24p playback of movies on netflix and blu ray

Debating what I'm going to do for PS5, right now I have an older 32" 4k/60 monitor (UR59) that I use mostly for work as my center monitor but also for PS4. I could either replace it with a 29" to 32" 4k/120, etc. once one is available, or grab the CX 48" and put it separate from my work setup but still with a pretty close viewing distance based on the room (probably 4').

The CX just clicks all of the boxes and based on the GL950 price ($800) I don't see the point in paying premium on a monitor when I'm not into PC gaming that would take advantage.

Any thoughts? Ideally, I wouldn't mind that CX 48 getting in the $1000 range on open box/Black Friday deals.
