Re: Getting rid of cable?
I am late but that's the one I purchased as well. I've had a few hiccups but overall it's been fantastic. I'm about 15 miles from the satellites in my area.
I'll answer for him: YES SIR
ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and some other local channels. All of mine are clear with the rare hiccup.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: Getting rid of cable?
lol I didn't realize so many people were on this. I made the switch back in January, and really haven't missed it at all. Between Hulu/Youtube/Streaming sites/ MLB free game of the Day, ESPN3, and broadcast tv official websites like abc.com, nbc.com, etc... there is really no need for cable television. And most of that list is legitimate legal ways of watching programming. If one does their homework you can really make this work after you get a routine. Getting cables and components is just icing on the cake.
In fact I probably will never get cable again unless I get married and even then I'll try to show the pros and cons before I even think about going back to it...
IT is the future we're just lucky to have realized it earlier than others.Last edited by lilbiggio; 09-10-2011, 03:58 AM.Comment

Re: Getting rid of cable?
I'm kind of confused about the differences in antennas. It recommends a yellow UHF antenna for some channels, and a yellow VHF antenna for others. What constitutes a yellow UHF or VHF antenna though? Does it have to be a certain design or something? Also, can they all be used inside?
I'm kind of lost on the whole thing. I believe my TV has a digital converter built in but i'm not sure.
EDIT: It recommends a red antenna for CBS as well. Does that just mean that if I get a "red" antenna, it will cover all of the UHF/VHF channels as well?Last edited by Kearnzo; 09-10-2011, 08:15 AM.Comment

Re: Getting rid of cable?
As Stewaat said, yes! However....
No bunny ears. Knowing my area and past experiences with bunny ears, I didn't want to have to find the right spot. Works great.
I had some hiccups when it was raining heavily and consistently this past week in New York. But, I watched the entire Packers/Saints game on NBC with zero issues.
Once I ran a channel search, it picked up nearly 30 digital channels. What 20 of those channels do, I don't know. I never heard of most of them.

And from what I understand, if you get a red antenna, then your signal will cover everything up to red. So you should be able to get the channels in yellow, for example, no problem.Last edited by CMH; 09-10-2011, 01:04 PM."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. That is not the model I picked up. I picked up this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/RCA+-+In...&skuId=8939839

Do you own an HDTV? If so, you don't even have to worry about it having a digital converter. It should be built in. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I looked into the antenna that NDAlum picked up for $40 at Best Buy, so I may try to pick that up this weekend.Comment

It should be color coded or tell you the strength of the antenna.
Mine had a chart going up to excellent (or basically one to five) with my particular antenna being a three (I forget what word was used).
I didn't need a strong antenna to receive all of my channels.

Those that have a laptop hooked up to tv, what cords are you using? Also does Ram make a difference?
I'm using a little acer aspire one w/ a VGA cord. It sports a whopping 1 GB of ram. Would the VGA cord be that big of a difference between HDMI? and would more ram make streaming a lot faster?Originally posted by MoJust once I'd like to be the one they call a jerk off.Originally posted by MoYou underestimate my lazinessOriginally posted by Mo**** ya

Re: Getting rid of cable?
I am about 20 miles East of NYC. I bought this Clearstream 2 antenna.
I thought it would pick up all my local broadcast stations
I was able to pick up 2 (CBS), 4 (NBC), 5 (FOX), 9 (WOR), 21 (PBS) plus several unknown mostly foreign language broadcasts.
No 7 (ABC) 11 (PIX) or 13 (PBS). I think in order to get those I would need a VHF antenna. The channels I was getting above are UHF.
I plan on selling the Clearsteam 2 and picking up a combo UHF/VHF antenna at some point.
Not ready to give up on cable just yet.Comment

Re: Getting rid of cable?
Five months later and I'm really happy with this decision.
I have Netflix, Hulu+ and Amazon Prime (for the time being. Still deciding if I'll hold onto it). My cable bill is $50/month for internet. With Netlix and Hulu+ costing me $15 combined (Prime is free for this trial), I'm saving over $100/month on cable.
I've been able to watch every show I like and even have options to watch sports online.
Can't complain. Nothings changed but having a bit more cash in the pocket."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
