Dexter (Season 6)

I love this show but everything is too convenient for Dexter. If not for the show's history, I would have stopped watching.

I very usually will turn a movie off if I see the things I saw in last night's episode. I can deal with Dexter getting out of incredibly tight situations. Most suspense is written that way (ie getting out of the exploding boat in time).

But things like saving Bautista because of a timely call or luckily spotting the wormwood girl at the precinct just as she was about to perform her deed is where I cringe.

It's just too perfect. Too easy. Too convenient. There's no sense of danger or challenge when the hero is constantly served by deus ex machina. Actually considering the theme of this season, I probably shouldn't be surprised.

The fact that NO ONE questioned to Dexter as to how he knew that Dorsey had Wormwood on her and was planning to gas the whole station is ridiculous.

Other than Debra of course, and the answer Dexter gives is "Luck."

Gimme a break. That's a good enough answer for you Deb?

Boy I hope they do some impressive story lines next episode cause this is really feeling like a bad season at this point. I know this point has been run into the ground here, but I'm getting pretty worried.

I thought after Sins of Omission that the Nebraska trip would come to bite Dexter and that it would slowly start up a Deb finding out about Dexter in some ways or becoming suspicious in a way. Instead they've twisted that into Deb is probably in love with Dexter and not in a brotherly way? I'm still shocked. I don't really have a problem with that territory, but it really doesn't make sense. The only way that works is if Deb becomes more interested in Dexter (ugh) and then kind of becomes too personal and starts to catch on or something...seriously, anything other than this.

Have to agree with CMH about the convenience of everything, though that goes back to Season 5. However I had more of a problem with the exploding boat (somewhat, it was obvious but not intended for the viewer to think Dexter died), not much of a problem personally with Bautista and Dex seeing the pic of the lady.

I am intrigued by the Louis storyline even more now. However I have a hard time believing Mathews would automatically assume that Deb told someone, considering that if Laguerta told someone (which is 110% believable) that she would also get his job.

I don't know how to say this without sounding horrible, but I kind of hope Harrison dies. On one hand I don't because it seems like it wouldn't progress the "Dexter" story anywhere it hasn't been, but if he does die I'm hoping in some way it could paint Dexter as suspicious.

I don't know, I just think we're going to get tired of the Harrison since he's a small kid and not going to be of any real significance actions wise for the rest of the shows timeline.

Random note:How you guys watch this show?By the comment you guys seem disgusted at the show at times.Maybe its cause im young (20,21 in 2 weeks ) but its crazy how much you seem disappointed at the show but you guys keep watching.Dont take this the wrong way im just stating something ive observed as a poster and as a lurker (during season 5) of the Dexter discussion thread.

It's like watching your favorite sports team when they're going through bad times. You're still going to watch regardless. We've invested too much time and whatnot to just stop watching completely. There's always hope they can turn things around.

Besides, it's not like there hasn't been any good episodes at all this season. It's just in general, some of the decisions they've made have been terrible and not nearly up to par with past seasons.

Even stranger is the fact that Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter are divorced and now the writers are suddenly trying to push forward some amazingly awkward/strange/uncomfortable Deb and Dexter love thing? Like really, what the ****?

Lol i though i was the only people to make that connection though Dexter's situation isnt technically incest since they arent arent blood sibling unless that doesnt matters( i would look up the definition but i cant erase my history and the last thing i want is have a google search of "incest" on there )

TV writing in general has been oddly similar this year. I can't remember all of the plotlines, but watching just the TV shows I watch every week, episodes of various shows will have a similar premise. Be it a murder surrounding storm chasers, a coach molesting kids (and this was prior to Penn St.), etc, shows would have these episodes on within the span of a couple of weeks. I started joking that the WGA has started a weekly newsletter with episode ideas.

I'm excited for the finale though I would've thought that they'd leave Dexter in his endangered state until next week.

While this new "incest" angle is quite interesting, I must say that I was screaming "No! Don't do it! I hope this is a dream!" during that whole scene in Dexter's apartment. I guess because we've had 6 years of associating them as just siblings (though not by blood), seeing the show take this direction is very awkward.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this season because I take it as a TV show and don't look for it to be "realistic". Half of the TV shows, movies we watch aren't realistic and see the main character getting away with unbelievable things...
