Re: Netflix hikes prices for DVDs + streaming
I wouldn't exactly call anything they've done in the past two months smart. Everything they've been doing is screaming reactionary decision model. They appear to have no plan whatsoever and, as a result, appear to have no idea what the hell they're doing or where they want to go in the future.
The separation of streaming and the dvd service wasn't the poor decision. The poor decision was to disallow integration of the services.
How many corporations would have released such a statement in this day and age? I commend them for it.
Clearly someone up there knows what they're doing if they pulled the plug on it.
Exactly. They seem to be throwing an idea out there, and moving forward with how it is received by the public.
No one can be considered smart when your corporation has lost more than half of it's value in just a few short months. That market cap is somewhere aroudn 6B now, after it was more like 14-16B in July.
But they were thinking of their bottom line and the rising costs for licensing. That being said...they had to do something especially with all the competition they're facing.
They made a decision and pulled back before blowing millions rolling out this Qwikster.
Fact is...most corporations would not have pulled the plug.Comment

I think this is a move to just stop the hehmorrhaging. It would seem to me they were losing more customers than gaining lol.
I'm glad they nixed the whole seperate entities thing, cause I was going to bail when it started.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. They did have a plan and adjusted accordingly...before it blew up in their face and basically collapsed their company.

They very well knew the public wouldn't be happy with it.

They have handled things very poorly and this cancellation of Qwister isn't exactly a feather in their hat.

Re: Netflix hikes prices for DVDs + streaming
They had to revise their subscription estimates for the quarter and rolled them back by a million or so. I doubt they would actually release how many customers really have dropped them since the streaming/dvd separation and price-increase.
The fact is they look like a company that doesn't know what it wants to do. I cannot commend Netflix for nipping Qwister before it got off the ground because it shows they have no foresight whatsoever. Either they are completely out of touch with their consumers (and that is looking more legit every day) or they're not completely sure how to transition from where they are to where they want to be.

Re: Netflix hikes prices for DVDs + streaming
They publicly announced its existence and even put up a precursor website for it. If that isn't "greenlighting" it, I'm not sure what is. The fact still remains that Netflix appears to be completely unsure of what it wants to do.

I agree that they look incredibly confused. But to have gone forward with it would've probably crippled them in due time.Comment

Re: Netflix hikes prices for DVDs + streaming
Netflix is fine. They obviously made some odd decisions that bit them in the last few months, but they are fine. They signed a deal with AMC, have recently added some more content and are trying to iron out their recent stumblings.
I would say to the consumer to not be so knee jerk in their reaction to Netflix. Of course, I've been stream-only for over a year now so nothing really has changed for me. I enjoy the service.
By the way, not sure if it has been mentioned, but Fraser is on there now.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Has anybody watched Wonder Years yet? I was wondering what kind of changes they had to make as I know the stream on Amazon has a different title cover.

It took forever for Wonder Years to make it anywhere close to this position and music right was always the reason.
I can't tell you much because I rarely watched The Wonder Years and while I love the period's music, I only recently discovered The Beatles wrote the lyrics for "With My Friends."

Ah that explains it. I watched the pilot and wondered if maybe the cover was performed by someone else before Crocker.

Not that its a "deal-breaker." Its beyond the control of the show with the way licensing is nowadays and the writing of the show is still really, really superb.
Now, if only Batman 66 would come out.

That's how I feel. I wasn't a huge fan when it was on. Honestly I didn't care for it. So I don't know which songs would be changed to feel slighted.
Of course, I now want to watch the series so I will, but outside of the theme song being covered by someone else, it won't bother me.
