After that, it's pretty open. As long as the put on a killer live show. I've seen close to 400 bands in concert, and that's where you can tell just how talented a band really is.

My 2 favorite bands were:

Genesis. Saw them several times.
Black Sabbath. Liked them better with Ozzy, but saw them with Dio. I did see Ozzy's first solo tour.

And enjoyed everything in between, especially the great guitar front men like Hendrix, Blackmore, Santana, Zappa, Clapton.

Yea the new Symphony X "Iconoclast" is amazing it gets one of my votes for Album of the Year.

My screen name is based off the band "Racer X", one of my favs from the 80's. I still have a Paul Gilbert series Ibanez guitar at home!!!!

Recently been going back to listen to early Genesis and Jethro Tull. Trick of the Tail may have been one of the first rock albums I was introduced to by my brother, so had no idea who Phil Collins was. And early Ian Anderson/Tull was bar none. Dude could make a flute outright jam! Apparently he said he took up the flute because at the time he heard Clapton on the guitar, so..... (check out Living In The Past on YT).

It's a shame the selling out many of the earlier bands did once the 80's rolled around. The later lollipop Genesis doesn't hold a candle to early Gen, though the Peter Gabriel days encompassed his quirkiness. Gabriel left before Genesis launched Trick of the Tail (check out Squonk on YT).

I don't mind them love the riffs but I prefer the melodic singers over the cookie monster vocals...LOL!!!!

Absolutely love those guys. Wasn't a fan until I saw them open for Mudvayne five or six years ago. Those guys know how to shred.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had gotten there latest album and tried a song and didn't like it but didn't listen to the rest so I will definitely try them out again.

I don't like grunting like in Brutal Death Metal bands such as Cannibal Corpse, but I don't mind screaming. In Flames screams but they've been incorporating more melodic singing on more recent albums.
