    Re: Official Rock music thread

I've become a fan of Avenged Sevenfold. Just when I thought most "new" rock music sounded the same, they came along and changed my opinion.

Do they have any new stuff out yet? I can't get enough of "Buried Alive", but would like to hear new stuff...

Have you given a listen to their other albums as well? My personal favorite is probably their first album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, because I prefer screamed vocals and I just love the overall feel. If screams turn you off, I would listen to City of Evil.

Pretty good song. Definitely not my favorite but it's still good. I'm interested to see how the album will turn out with the new drummer. Their drumming by the Rev was really what drew me into Avenged Sevenfold

Yeah, I liked it but it wasn't their best although they have said they're going in a slightly new direction. I saw them live in Madrid a couple of years ago on one of their first tours w/Arin and he actually did pretty well, considering they played some old songs. Hopefully the new direction is for the better of the band not just to fit Arin, then again, Rev was pretty damn awesome and irreplaceable.

No, not yet. I just got into them fairly recently. I got hooked on their "old school" sound.

Screams don't turn me off, so I'll give that a listen. Like I said, most music to me today sounds the same. They're different.

Waking the Fallen is my personal favorite, it's one of my favorite albums to just play from beginning to end. Each track has sort of an "epic" feel (better descriptive words are eluding me right now).

"Unholy Confessions" is still one of my favorite songs and I stopped listening to a7x after hearing "Nightmare" for the 7 billionth time. Ah, that takes me back to my college dorm room.

Agree that Nightmare was overplayed when it came out but the album itself is still good IMO. Sucks that you were turned off by that one song. I like the album as a whole but I really never got into the self-titled song that much though. Radio overplay kills my interest in songs.

Also, anyone here listen to Coheed and Cambria? I knew who they were but I never really started listening and getting into them until recently when their songs played a lot on my Pandora station

Been jamming a ton of Far From Proper recently. I was able to get their whole discography for name your own price a couple months back off their bandcamp while they were having van troubles, can't stop playing them.

I love that "name your own price" stuff, makes me feel a little better about downloading music.

Not really a fan of the new Five Finger Death Punch album. Can't pinpoint what it is, but it just doesn't do it for me. Is that song with Tech 9 supposed to be a joke that went over my head?

When I see that, I tend to buy the music for $5 or so. Enough to help but not too much that I'm more strapped for cash then I already am. Just knowing that they just want the exposure and don't care about the profit shows that they're in it because it's a passion of theirs, not to become rock stars and make millions. Which most (almost all) of the bands and music I love and support aren't rich by any means. But I understand that they also need that money to continue doing what they do. Still, a lot of the bands work jobs like you and me to make sure rent is paid. They just get some extra time off to tour the country and sometimes the world!

I'm enjoying the new Surfer Blood album, Pythons, that came out in June.
