As far as? If it's the sleep problem, Toshiba fixed that.

Stupid question, but will this work in Canada?
It won't block my IP will it if it realizes it's not in the US?

I'm thinking of getting my wife something like this for Christmas.
But I'm so lost when it comes to these handheld devices.
I was thinking of getting her an iPod Touch. But I like the looks of this and the price is about the same.

EDIT: Nevermind. I found out that won't be possible. Streaming won't work in Canadia.
Too bad. Guess I'll look into the iPod Touch.

Really? Why not just give it to him for Christmas?

Why? He's already getting other gifts for Christmas, he wants my Kindle, which is an optional thing (I could just trade it in via Amazon or sell it on eBay), so we've told him he can save his allowance and buy it. I think him expecting a handout because his parent's upgraded something would be a worse lesson to teach.

After all, he didn't get a TV in his room when we purchased a new one.

You can side load apps on the Fire.

Re: Amazon Kindle Fire (Amazon Tablet)

Well picked up my Fire today from bestbuy, was maybe thinking about holding off for the Nook Tablet, Well I already owned a Nook color so I kinda new was I was getting if I got the Nook Tablet.

Let me start off by saying that I had no interest in anything with Cloud, just never really read into it and so for that matter b never really bother to try it on any device Ala the ipad 2 My girl kidnapped from me.

So Got the device here at work with me and I will say that OI think amazon has a winner on there hands with this nifty device, I mean it really is a pocket size of entertainment, books/movies apps, you get the picture. There new web browser works at it is called and that Silky, very fast. You can tell by going into the settings it very adroidish like CM7's settings, very cool..

One thing that I was liking what I saw from the nook tablet was its screen with there LG vivid screen technology, but man the Fire's screen is beautiful very nice to vies, I watched some movie trailer son it and its sweet,

Back to the Cloud, yes I know people will say there only 8gb and you can only really use 6.53gb of it, but I have been downloading everything and anything I want to the cloud and its unlimited to. People may say well what if I wanna watch a movie on the road or listen to music and I don't have a wifi connection to connect to the cloud, well then the space on device will come in, you can swap what you need from your cloud to the device memory and you will be fine.

All in all I think it a very nice device and I think it will be a big hit this holiday season...Books look great on it and people who love there original kindle should not be without this one.

Thanks for the review.. Really assured me on the purchase now. I was contemplating on purchasing one, but was too late in canceling my pre-order, but reading your review has me excited to get it now.

Re: Amazon Kindle Fire (Amazon Tablet)

To me, the Fire is still exactly what the doctor ordered.

I have an iPhone. To me, an iPad overlaps far too much (and for too high a cost) over to what I can already do with my iPhone.

                    Apps? Check.

                    Email? Check.

                    Photos/Video? Check.

The bigger screen for a tablet to me is most useful for reading, web surfing and watching movies. Oh hey, that's exactly the strengths and focus of the Kindle Fire.

Hard drive space is a complete non issue for me. I've got a 32 gig iPhone. I have Amazon Prime. I can't really think of any good reason why I would need more than the 8 gigs the Fire offers.

So, I'm on board. I can get one for myself and one for my parents for Christmas and still come in under the price of an iPad.

I will be honest, The cloud is going to take off with this device, I have put all my stuff on the cloud thus far and that's where its going to stay. No need for me to even use the storage space on the fire.

By the way the Netflix just came available about an hour ago and the app looks really nice on the Fire, its setup so different, looks good.

I heard Android got their Netflix app updated before any other systems. Can't wait to get it!!

My sister and brother have birthdays in October.

I preordered two Fires for them. They can't wait till these arrive in the mail. My sister is slowly learning the benefits of online viewing (thanks to big brother) and my brother says he can't wait to buy chess books on the Fire (he's got nationally ranked game).

I didn't know they could use Netflix on it. Might need one of my own now! I did preorder the $99 version of the Kindle Touch. Hopefully reading books on it will save battery life on my iPhone.

You know the price is just right that I might buy my dad one. He's not very tech savvy.. but for the stuff he does, it should help him.

And yes you can download the Android Netflix app. What's even more awesome is that you get a free Prime membership if you don't already have it.

Amazon Prime has a ton of free TV shows and movies that I think are a better selection than Netflix's streaming selection.

I did read about the free month of Prime.

I'm thinking I might get them a year of Prime as a Christmas bonus. They already know that the Fire is basically their birthday/Christmas present. But, I can fork over an additional $160 for two prime memberships for them.

The only thing I hate most about getting them a gift like this is that they need to spend money on it to enjoy it completely. So, I don't mind helping a bit there at first.
