just sideload the apps you want, I have youtube, chrome, tapatalk and some other apps on my Kindle without having to do anything illegal, and they work pretty well.

there are a few apps that won't work but those are the ones that need to be connected to the Google network, all in all for the price of a KF these are minor annoyances.

What is the logic behind not offering all the apps? I see why they block the ones where they offer an alternative they want you to use, but u was trying to find an app that is used for Texas high school football scores. Do apps have to be specifically designed to work for the Kindle version of android?

Kindles though running Android, locks out the Play Store as its a direct competitor to the Amazon App Store.

As stated you can run side by sides or all out root your Kindle.

As I just posted I rooted my wife's OG Kindle Fire using n2a. They charge you, but IMO it was worth the 20 bucks. It's running CyanogenMod 10.2/ 4.2.2 JB

I then downloaded the Amazon App Store APK & now have the best of both worlds

Funny you bump this thread i was looking today at loading 10.1. The GTA V app iFruit not being available was the last straw on apps I want not being there. Either going to do that or just sell it and get something else.

Re: Amazon Kindle Fire (Amazon Tablet)

Need some help guys. My daughter is wanting a Kindle Fire for Christmas but I've always read the app store is limited compared to say a Google Nexus or Samsung Galaxy Tablet. She is dead set on a Kindle Fire. So my question is how is the app store? And is it a pain to "root" the Kindle to get the play store? Any help/info from the OS community would be appreciated. Thanks!

I highly doubt your daughter is looking to root anything. She is just going to use it to read books and watch some netflix or something on it. So for her and most people, the Kindle Fire is fine as is.

She isn't, no. I would root it if it's worth getting the full Google play store. I just wasn't sure how limited the Amazon app store is on free apps.

I know Instagram isn't available. I never bothered rooting mine because the couple of apps that weren't available I could get on my phone. It's been great other than that initial frustration.
