Re: What's good to watch on Netflix

Don’t wait on BSG, one of favorite shows of all time. I was never into shows like this and actually stopped watching after the first movie because I thought it was a Star Trek show and I never got into those.

Glad I gave it a second chance, what a ride. Keeps you guessing the whole time.

I guess I’m going to rewatch it now thinking about it.

Also Black Mirror coming back tomorrow!

I know that this is the Netflix thread, but since we're talking about BG, I have to give a shameless plug here for The Expanse. BG has been number one for me for a minute, but The Expanse is right there IMO, and may surpass it after season 3.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Dude the Expanse is freaking amazing. I love the book series and the show. Can't wait for season 3. Man it is just so engaging. Love it.

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix

                I watched Bright.

Don't understand why it's gained so much traction as a talked-about film. Netflix has several films in it's "Original" branding. Is it because this one has Will Smith in it?

I thought it was average. Fun movie. Nothing amazing but definitely not as bad as the social media public will have you believe. I barely listen to critics when it comes to films because they have zero idea what the general public enjoys.

It's interesting that a film with an 88% audience rating (it was not that good but it's also not anywhere close to the 33% critic rating) has gotten so many of the audience viewers to speak negatively about it on social media. Once again proving that the minority is just the loudest.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

                  Peaky Blinders.

Such an incredible show. It's become my favorite (non-Marvel) Netflix Original Series.

We tried this show last year...only got 2 or 3 episodes in and it didn't grab us. Does it pick up, or if the first few episodes didn't work am I just not going to enjoy it?

I watched the first episode a while back and thought it was pretty slow and hard to follow. But I decided to give it a fair second chance after a LONG break and I'm hooked. If you like mob/crime/gangster stuff, you'll absolutely enjoy it.

The seasons are only 6 episodes long, so it doesn't feel like a drawn out viewing.

Thanks...might give it another go. There have been some shows that everyone loves, and when I try them they just don't grab me. Hell on wheels was like that...I've tried it twice and haven't made it through the 3rd episode either time.

I came to the conclusion about a decade ago that the internet is full of dweebs with “look at me” opinions and “look at me” hyperbole”.

I never listen to critics on anything. Ever. I am forever and always the judge of my reality and will never let any outside influence direct me or sway me with any potential misconception of art.

Art is subjective. Music and movies as well as books need to be experienced by yourself. Then you can agree or disagree with the incredible mob mentality of the internet age. Same for video games. I play them myself and form my own opinion which is not the gospel. Just merely an opinion. And discussion of opinions are fun. But I see so much trolling on the inter web with social media.....blech.

Believe me.....the internet has amazing use. I do love it for various reasons of gathering information, communicating with groups of people with common interests (OS!!) etc etc. But the sheer amount of wankery on social media and this new age of Rotten Tomatoes now guiding people to art is just ridiculous.

Bright was a decent movie, and for those that love the whole LOTR lore and world....and a really cool take on "what if it was real" and evolved like a real society.

                          Then you would have Bright.

Execution was ok.....it was not great movie....but entertaining enough. But the panning critics are giving it? LOL. I have seen far far worse drivel than this.

                          Ok rant over. LOL.

You touched upon the center of the nutshell in our modern world of instantaneous social commentary on all subjects. Is there not one person, event, entertainment, etc. that is not uber-polarizing?
