Re: What's good to watch on Netflix
I finished the last Peaky Blinders last night (there are 4 seasons on Netflix) and wow what a ride.
It is my 3rd favorite show of all time, it is that good. Do yourselves favor and watch if you have not yet. It is only 4 seasons with 6 episodes per season.
The first couple episodes of the series are tough to get through, it takes a while to understand their accents.
It truly is a great series, I loved it!Comment

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix
We just finished this last night and it was pretty good. I didn't like it as much as Making a Murder but I have definitely put a lot of thought into what the hell happened in the staircase.
Thoughts
SpoilerMicheal Peterson is a really weird dude and I can't really get much of a read on him. I lean on the side of him being innocent but I certainly have no explanation for the all lacerations on Kathleen's head as well as a bunch of other things. On the flip side, the fact that there was no skull fracture or anything that you normally see with a beating makes it seem like maybe she did fall but damn I have so many questions about both theories.
Also, Peterson being so adamant about his innocence even after 15+ years to the point he wouldn't even say the word guilty during his Alford plea kind of makes me think he really is innocent. If he was guilty it seems like he would say whatever he needed to just to put this whole thing passed him.
In the end, I feel similar to how I felt with Steven Avery and Brandon Dassey. All three of them may very well be guilty, however from what I saw in court there was reasonable doubt. The authorities and legal system look terrible in as I think there was a ton of bias from the police in both cases. With all of that said I know that both docs were from the defense's side and skewed in their direction. I have read up a bit (mainly on reddit) on them and still have my doubts.I started watching this coincidentally after starting the Criminal podcast which features this story on the premiere podcast.
It's an interesting case, but so far the most interesting aspects to me is seeing how a case is made, defended, and how much money it all takes.
Spoilerit leaves out that Michael Peterson and his wife were having serious financial problems and that Kathleen Peterson had a multi-million dollar life insurance policy with Michael as the sole beneficiary; glosses over Michael Peterson's ridiculous story of hanging out near the pool on a cold December night for 45 minutes in shorts and a T-shirt while his wife was struggling for her life; ignores that the medical examiner concluded that Kathleen Peterson bled profusely for hours, thus making Michael Peterson's account of his whereabouts, even if you accept them at face value, inadequate; doesn't mention that Todd Peterson was already suspiciously at the scene when paramedics arrived and stonewalled investigators; that there were blood drops on the back patio; that Michael Peterson's bloody footprint was on the back of Kathleen's pants; evidence that Michael Peterson attempted to clean up the scene, etc.
I don't think the judge had any choice but to vacate the verdict and grant a retrial after the state lab technician's misconduct was exposed, but there was enough evidence to convict Michael Peterson in a retrial that copping to an Alford plea was a no-brainer for him.Last edited by Chip Douglass; 07-10-2018, 10:09 PM.I write things on the Internet.

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix
Finished up season 2 of GLOW last night. I enjoyed it a lot. I think season 1 is just a hair better because the overall narrative is tighter, but still a great show.

I was meh on Season 1, but like you, really enjoyed Season 2. Better character development and again, agree with you on the focused narrative.Currently Playing:

Watched "How It Ends" tonight...
It's a.....mixed bag. Don't know how to quite put it.
If you want 2012, The Road, Dante's Peak & The Happening - all rolled into one kind of movie, then this is your flick.
I'll leave it at that...STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Started watching "The Staircase" today...
Holy crap, am I HOOKED on this one! Compelling. I can't stop watching. I'm not reading anything about it, so I want to be surprised.
But when I saw Mike Nifong, I immediately knew something interesting is about to take place...STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS
