So here is the build that I'm thinking about, and would love some input/recommendations.

    Key Notes:
-High performance gaming with some future proofing for 4k gaming and possibly upgrading GPU when the rumored MCM GPUs come out in a couple of years.
-Noise levels and airflow are a priority
    -No intention of overclocking

    CPU: Intel Core i9-13900K
    - I like the idea of the 13th gen Intel series with its increased DDR5 and Thunderbolt support

CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix 75 CFM Liquid CPU Coler
    - I like Corsair products, and I have had good experiences with their cooling systems

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Xtreme EATX LGA1700
    - Mobo's are not an area of expertise for me. I would really like to get one with Thunderbolt4/USB4, but there are not many options. Especially not affordable ones.

    Memory: Corsair Vengeance 64gb DDR5-5200
-5200 speed ram seems to be this generation's optimum

    Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVME SSD (2x)
    - I definitely want 4gb of storage. I own a lot of steam games lol

    Video Card: Asus ROG_Strix-RTX4080
    - Not a lot of FPS difference among the different 4080 cards that I could find, but the Strix was the quietest and generally one of the least hot ones.

    Case: Lian Li Lancool III
    - In some reviews that I saw, it consistently performed the quietest and coolest (top 2 or 3 in each category)

    Power Supply: Corsair RM1000x
    - I want to go fully modular. 1000w seems to be the recommended value for a system with a 4080. Part of me would like to go higher in case I upgrade GPUs in a couple of years.

    Total build price ~4300

If I was already in for $4300 I’d have a hell of a time not just going all out for the 4090.

Also, aren’t the new 7000 x3D chips just around the corner? Given how well the previous gen did with gaming I’d be taking a hard look a those from AMD.

The melting issues with the 4090 scare me. Not something that most people will experience, but also not something that I want to risk. Otherwise, I'd definitely go for the 4090 at this price point.

Yes the 7000 x3D chips are set to be released 2/28. I'm definitely interested in seeing benchmarks for them. Being on the AM5 socket would also be a plus since it would make a future cpu upgrade viable. Historically AMD can't match Intel for gaming (though they are close) is really the main reason. I do think that I will wait for benchmark reveals on the 7900x3d and 7950x3d before building anything though.

Man, I haven’t heard a peep about the melting thing since release. I think the actual numbers of reported cases were extremely low. Not only were the numbers extremely low, but some of the problems wound up coming from people paranoid about the problem unplugging and plugging in there GPU obsessively. They were actually causing their connectors to fail from overuse.

I think many of the original cases were from one specific connector that didn’t make the proper “clicky” sound when it was fully inserted. So some people were only inserting their connectors partially. Either way, the problem was minuscule as far as these things go. I think a few Reddit threads in particular blew up and really led to the hysteria early on.

          New Build is in

Case - Lian Li Lancool iii
Mobo - Asus ROG Strix x670-A
          CPU - AMD Ryzen 7900X3D
GPU - MSI Geforce RTX 4090 Suprem Liquid
          Ram - 64GB G-Skill DDR5-6000
          SSD - Samsung 980 Pro (4gb)
AIO - Lian Li Galahad 360mm RGB Water Cooler

I've also added the an Asus 1440p monitor.

Everything runs fantastic. I was a little hesitant to accept the recommendation of the guy at microcenter for the liquid cooled 4090, but I'm really happy that I did. The system is absolutely silent.

Man, that's sick. And I thought my little 3070 with 16GB RAM was nice.

I do have a pretty sweet Lian Li case though.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Putting this in both the steam PC and Build a PC threads hoping someone here can help me with an issue I am having.

I have a three monitor setup. The middle monitor is my main monitor on my PC. It is connected via DisplayPort. That same monitor also connects to my Xbox Series X via HDMI. Often, but not every time, when I play on my Xbox, Windows will decide that my main monitor is no longer active and will switch from a 3-screen setup to a 2-screen setup making the monitor on my right the main display now.

Is there a setting that can stop this from happening? My monitor has Deep Sleep options for both inputs. It's disabled on both. Did not fix the issue. I have my displays set to never go to sleep in Windows. That did not fix the issue. What's strange to me is this doesn't happen every single time I am playing my Xbox. One night I'll play 3 games of Madden over the course of 2 hours and Windows never switches up the displays. Then the next night I'll be on the Xbox for 5 minutes and Windows switches to a 2-screen setup.

There has to be some setting I can toggle to prevent this from happening, no?

Odd issue for sure. Hopefully someone has a better fix than this just within windows settings, but a potential work around would be a KVM switch with EDID Simulation. They are not particularly cheap, but I think that it would solve your issue.

                    128 was too expensive [emoji38]

Seemed a waste to not just get the extra stick now with this rig already being so expensive.

Also forgot to post a pic.

Yeah, I got 64 too. My next rig is probably getting 128.

Tested this out on my own setup, it did not provide the results that I thought it would. The PC wanted to move my "main" when I switched the display source.

Are you daisy chaining them? There are a lot of differences in how each monitor handles it.

Are you playing Xbox on the main monitor and switching to the HDMI cable? If so, then the main monitor is most likely not handling keeping the hdmi and display ports active.

Also not clear on what you are doing with your PC while playing. Is it running while you are playing or shut down? Are you switching the source back to the display port before turning it back on?

The kvm wouldn't work for that. It's used generally for more than 1 PC and using 1 keyboard & mouse on 1 monitor. When you switch to a different PC, the switch handles sending the keyboard to the right PC.

Windows is handling it as it should. If you are switching inputs on the monitor, then on the PC that is no longer active windows sees that as no longer being connected and has to have a main screen.
