      Re: Dexter (Season 7)

I'm having a hard time picking my jaw up off the floor after watching that episode......

EDIT: Also, I don't know if it's possible for one single episode to redeem one or two questionable seasons, but I'm pretty sure this episode did just that. **** was intense.

I honestly think the ending to this episode might have been even better than the reveal at the end of the last season. And there wasn't a chance in hell I was watching the preview for next week afterwards. I don't want to have any idea what's going to happen because this season is shaping up to be incredible.

Doesn't make up for the mostly subpar (there are a few real solid episodes in then) past two years, but that was the best episode of the show since the Thanksgiving episode and Finale in season Four. Just awesome.

Yes you are, Dexter Morgan! Yes you are!

Amazing premiere! Deb knowing is really gonna give this show the kick in the *** it needed for the past 2 seasons.

That episode had more actual plot motion than the last two seasons combined. I heartily approve.

Agreed. My biggest disappointment with the season finale reveal was how convenient it all was for Debra. I mentioned it in that thread and I'll repeat it: there was no excuse for ignoring Debra's detective skills and past in finding out Dexter's secret.

Perhaps the writers realized they made a mistake or maybe they always planned it this way. I don't know.

But, for them to take the finale scene and make it about Dexter covering it up rather than it being the true reveal, was for the better. Watching Debra uncover the truth (even if done quickly over one episode) redeems the handling of the biggest moment of the series.

                Excellent recovery by the team.

I think the excuse for that has always been that Deb would never suspect her "brother" of something even close to that. But I agree that at some point it just became too convenient for her to ignore certain things, like that time Dexter was at Trinity's house before the cops were in Season 4 (which is something I wonder if they'll call back to).

Also, I think the writer's might have already pointed out some of their own mistakes from the past with the way they so quickly brushed off why Deb was at the church in the first place and her reaction being that she had pretty much forgotten, as well as Dexter pointing out that he should have taken care of Travis much sooner than he did instead of trying to save him.

Hopefully better consistency in the writing is going to be a constant this season and it isn't just that one episode getting our hopes up. Maybe now that the end is finally in sight that is going to be the case, because there is now only 23 episodes left for the entire series.

Man, just gave the show a watch yesterday. Speechless. That final scene is exactly what a plot build up is sopposed to look like. This episode alone is better than the 3 eps of Boardwalk Empire thus far.

Now this it the Dexter I remember! Glad it's back, especially after a terrible last season. Now all I have to do is erase last season and Colin Hanks from my memory.

                        Re: Dexter (Season 7)

I'm still a little wary, but definitely excited after seeing the premiere.

So many good parts, including the huge shock at the end. Reading a few posts, I thought the huge surprise was going to be Laguerta finding the blood slide - luckily it wasn't.

The way that Debra wouldn't let up (despite Dexter having an answer for everything, of course probably was at the same time making Deb more suspicious), Dexters narration was also back - I thought that was a HUGE missing element from last year. (it was there, but minimal and often at times was stupid)

Only thing I'm wary about is how they're going to fill up the rest. I have some confidence in them after this episode, but my only worry is where they go from here. She already knows just about everything (in the sense that Dex is a serial killer), so for who knows how long it's going to be a "is she going to tell somebody?...okay, not yet" type situation.

But that's just thinking far ahead, I am now very excited for weekly Dexter episodes again.

If they take any hints from the book series, there is a lot of good back and forth and little changes in their relationship after Deb finds out. Plus, with them knowing they only have, what, 23 episodes left, hopefully that'll help their focus.

They got right to it right away. After Deb talks to Jamie and finds out about his late hours they reached the point of no return.

                            Great opener.

One thing I love is how you can see Dexter reaching the breaking point and that he's being overwhelmed with everything that's happened the past few seasons (starting with Rita's death) to the point that he's constantly making mistakes and taking risks he never would have in the past, which are what's going to lead to him getting caught. In this episode alone, you had him leaving the plastic on Travis' foot (which he recovered) and dropping the blood slide.

Also, it was interesting to really see the serial killer in Dexter come out with the way he was trying to cover things up to Deb at the beginning and also how he's even considered running away and leaving Harrison behind. As easy as it is to forget at times, he's still a killer and that was another nice aspect to this episode I thought.

I think it showed in this episode. I wish they could set end dates more often for TV shows, would help alleviate or (less often) those roadbumps some great shows encounter.
