For a Nolan film, this is extremely disappointing.
I can't remember the last time I checked RT for a movie much less read any reviews for a film.

Meh, for a Nolan film I normally check it to get myself hyped. In other words, if this is floating between 90-100% I am bracing myself for something that is truly can't-miss. I don't know.

On that note, The Prestige sits at 76% and that is the most sturdy film of his IMO, from a directing/story/acting standpoint.

I'm expecting this to climb and I'm expecting to love it, but I enjoy hopping on the hype train with it as well.

I definitely don't read any reviews, though. One story spoiler and it's game over for me. I don't even know what this movie is about! (I could give you a twelve word sentence, but that's it)

I'm not surprised. Its a space-science fiction story with "what is life" type questions and implications (that's the vibe I get from the trailer anyway). Not exactly something that slides right into most reviewers' wheelhouse.

Well, I understand the sci-fi portion causing some stir regarding that, but a lot of films push the envelope with a story that is compelling for, say, Oscar talk (although I hear this can get some nods outside of acting and screenplay, and perhaps win).

The difference with Nolan's films though are I think his message pertains to his world more than our world, no matter what movie it is. So in other words, if the end is something controversial in some matter, it doesn't apply to us at all when it applies totally to the characters. There's something about that kind of fiction that I really appreciate in Nolan's work, that perhaps the Academy wouldn't.

I think there's a message to be taken from each of his films especially as he loves to pile on abundantly with his set themes and symbolism. Of course that message will pertain to his film world, but a good film will also have that message transcend the film and make us think about our own world. I think that holds true for all of his films.

              Re: Interstellar (Christopher Nolan)

So I'm doing a Christopher Nolan filmography marathon this weekend:

              1. Following (1998)
              2. Memento (2000)
              3. Insomnia (2002)
              4. Batman Begins (2005)
              5. The Prestige (2006)
              6. The Dark Knight (2008)
              7. Inception (2010)
              8. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Through The Prestige so far. It's great to watch this way and see how Nolan has "evolved." To be honest, his most stapled Nolan-esque work is displayed in Batman Begins and The Prestige. Inception comes close, but I would say there was a lot more panache that overrode his normal input. I'd say IMAX does the same thing for him, because most of the action sequences in TDK and TDKR lacked vision due to limitations IMO.

That being said, I truly hope that Interstellar is most closely related to The Prestige in terms of overall vision. Not that I forgot how good that movie was, but I've solidified it's my favorite work of his, though TDK/TDKR/Inception are my favorite films of his. It'll be hard for me to explain the differences, but I just hope this film has that kind of correct tone, consistency, and accessibility despite the sci-fi aspects of it.

              Can't wait, and can't wait!

Yup, just got out of mine and am finally home. I liked it, I loved it, and I want some more of it. Only difference is I won't be running right back to the theater to see it again. I'd rather talk about it instead.

Great branching out by Nolan, on so many levels. I think he really achieved something here in film-making form, and even if it wasn't the strongest storytelling it was definitely a bold project to take on. He did well here, and the style is far unlike any of his other films. Same with Zimmer and his score (it's still in my head, by the way).

Not a film for everybody, hence why I see the polarized reviews. I think most of the OS crowd will appreciate what he made, though.

                    Those pipe organs man. Beautiful.

Did you experience a problem in a couple scenes where the score had a little too much bass and drowned out some dialogue? That happened in my theater a couple times and just wondering if it was my theater's sound system being a bit out of balance.

Yep, and I was pissed. It happened in the very beginning, and it seemed to happen most often in scenes on Earth as well (around their house). I blamed the projectionist at the time, but now I'm wondering if all IMAX theaters are having trouble with some LFE's and bottoming out.

I don't expect this to translate over in regular theaters or on Blu-ray.

I saw it last night loved it, by far Nolans most human film he's ever done. However I can see how the movie is going to have people who love it and people who don't understand/hate it.

Wow. Yeah I figured other IMAX theaters might have the same problem. Was distracting but overall not something that really bothered me too much. Most of the film sounded fine.
