Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
So after three viewings and a lot of thought, my biggest questions definitely are all regarding
Spoiler
Rey.
I have a really hard time seeing her as Luke's daughter. I could see her as a relative of Obi-Wan. But if she is Luke's daughter or Leia's daughter what are we talking about here? Did Luke mind-wipe everyone who knew about her to protect her? Seems questionable. At the same time though, I am in the camp that she did have training as a child, unless she is just so crazy strong with the force that she can learn on the fly like that, which seems super dodgy. I dunno. If she did have training there was definitely some sort of cover-up initiated by someone at some point.
Very curious to see how this unfolds.
I hope she kicks the crap out of all the bad guys tho, I really dig her as a little bad-***."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
Went and saw it for a second time and decided to try to focus on
Spoilerthe flashback scene when she grabs the lightsaber. I didn't notice Obi-Wan's voice the first time, but knowing to look for it this time, it was pretty obvious.
But I noticed two other bigger things:
1. It looked to me like Kylo Ren SAVES her during the attack on the Jedi Academy. It looked like someone was about to kill her and he stepped in and killed him instead.
2. I also tried to focus on who she was left with on Jakku. When I heard the guy say "Let go, girl" (or something along those lines), I knew I recognized the voice but it was driving me nuts where it came from. And then it hit me; I'm pretty positive it was the creature that she sells scavenged goods to.
This leads to a few more questions:
1. This would seem to indicate that it's Kylo Ren that leaves her on Jakku; not her parents. If that's the case, then you're left wondering if they are indeed related, and that that is why Kylo Ren steps in to save her. This would also allow the possibility that her parents believe her to be dead, and therefore, Luke, Leia, Han, or whoever the parents are might not recognize her at first (especially Han since he isn't force sensitive). The alternative is that Rey was the youngest of the group and Kylo Ren, still having the internal battle between light and dark, had a moment of mercy and saved the little girl and then left her on Jakku, assuming that she would never be a problem without training.
2. If Kylo Ren saves her and drops her off on Jakku, how does Snoke not know about it? In the novel, it appears that Kylo Ren recognizes Rey and keeps asking her if she is anything more than a scavenger to confirm what he already suspects. Later in the book, when she force-grabs the lightsaber, it finally confirms his suspicions and he says "It IS you." At the same time though, he insists to Snoke that she's just a scavenger. Snoke senses that Kylo Ren feels attached to her, but if he knew that Kylo Ren saved her and dropped her off on Jakku, wouldn't he put two and two together?
3. Is it just coincidence that the guy that Rey is left with also happens to get his hands on the Millenium Falcon?
4. Who exactly is this creature (I guess his name is Unkar Plutt), and how is he chosen to be the person that Rey is left with?
SpoilerI don't know, I feel like if people knew Luke had a daughter and that she was dumped off somewhere, Han/Leia/Kylo Ren would be searching for her. Seems pretty weak to me that they'd just be like "Oh, alright." And then forget she ever existed.Last edited by Yeah...THAT Guy; 12-29-2015, 10:59 AM.NFL: Bills

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
a lot of good theories about who Rey is. One thing that i noticed
Spoilerin the flashback scene, the ship we see fly away from little Rey is the same type of ship that we saw at the very beginning of the movie transporting the storm troopers when they attacked the village...so whoever left her is probably someone connected with the first orderComment

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
After thinking about some things I hope Captain Phasma gets more screen time in the second movie. She starts out seemingly badass then is seen 1 other time in a comedic role where she essentiallySpoilerKilled a **** ton of the First Order herself by deactivating the shield. Make a way where she escaped with Kylo Ren and make her awesome in the second movie.
Also Rey is awesome along with BB-08

SpoilerIn the LA Times article theres,According to the L.A. Times, Captain Phasma will also appear in Episode VIII"But you won't see Phasma tapping out after being carelessly knocked into a sarlacc pit like a wobbly toddler. Kennedy has big plans for Phasma and confirmed that the captain will carry on into the next movie. "She's an important character, a baddie in the best sense of the word."
Also it would of asserted her character more if she was the one to use the shock baton against Finn and not some generic storm trooper IMO.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
I just didn't buy her diverting the shields that easily. Especially with Finn ordering her around. She should be pissed at him, but I felt nothing in that scene.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
I really liked the movie, but honestly it was almost like a parody in some spots. Janitor, Ancient Smuggler, and a Giant Wooly sweater just stroll into the new and improved death star and tell the Captain to lower the shields. Not even an ounce of resistance. The only logical explanation is that they slipped her a roofy and that part ended up on the editors floor.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

The character looked all bad in the previews, but proved to be an utter waste. Sure I'll lower the shields why not?

Saw it for a second time last night, this time in 2D after 3D the first time. Man, I wished I watched in 2D first. So much better overall experience, able to pick up on more subtleties and things in the background.
It felt quite different viewing it after knowing and accepting that it's largely a remake of ANH. One guy in the row in front of me let out an audible groan the first time Starkiller Base was shown."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
