Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Just saw this movie, and loved it. Much better than the first one, IMO. Many of my gripes with the first one were addressed here. One of those things is that I just wasn't entertained with the first one until the last battle (I was with the comedy, but even that gets stale after some time).

The only real inconsistency is Captain America, in how his abilities have grown since... well okay, I guess it has been seventy years of development if you think about it. My point is, his abilities in The First Avenger, to The Avengers, to The Winter Soldier now to Age of Ultron has been very interesting. He gettin' good at what he does!

Only saw it in 2D, but you'll be sure I'm buying this 3D Blu-ray!

And whoa, was that Aaron Johnson? Looked it from his eyes, but man that guy can change form really quickly!

Finally, saw this. Really enjoyed it. Character development and pacing was spot on. Ultron felt more creepy than menacing. Thought this one was just as good as the first. Already pro-ordered the 3D version.

Finally saw this as well. Fortunately our discount, historical theater in the area has a great Dolby sound system.

I'm not going to get into ranking these flicks, but, instead, group them:

Avengers 1 & 2, IM 1, Cap 2, Thor 1, GotG, Daredevil --- all great story lines and must see.

IM 2 & 3 (tho 3 had some merit), Cap 1, Thor 2 & SHIELD (only because of the ABC network limits; imagine SHIELD as a Netflix original) --- if I could never see them, I don't feel like I'm missing much.

Re: Avengers 2 again.... well orchestrated story. Quicksilver, Scarlett Witch and Vision all done so well. I really didn't think I'd end up liking how they handled the Witch, but Marvel obviously knows what it's doing. I thought Marvel's Quicksilver was handled much more "realistically" than X-Men/Fox. Quicksilver isn't a teenage wise-***.... he's very proud and bold.

DC has an extremely high bar over which to leap.

            Extremely huge

Blu-ray comes out today. Best Buy has the 3D version for $19.99 and the 2D for $17.99.

                      Any better deals than this?

I didn't care much for it. Ultron ended up being rather...blah. Seems like most of the Marvel movies suffer from lack of a solid baddie.

IM 1 - Obadiah Stane/Super IM was great
IM 2 - Whiplash... effective in the moment...coulda been better
IM 3 - Mandarin was disappointing, but Killian's character wasn't bad.

Loki is great. Skull was mishandled. Winter Soldier was great.

I really disliked what Ultron was compared to what I hoped he would be (he was basically a vilified Tony Stark kind of character with James Spader's mannerisms), but I thought the movie was superior to the first one for sure.

Good thing Whedon isn't at the helm for Infinity War when it comes to writing, because I'd be afraid what Thanos would be like if he took on a comedic role as well haha.

I have liked a few Marvel villains, though. The Winter Soldier, Stane from IM1, and I'll give you Loki as well.

I think it was more of a commentary on just how far Tony Stark will go in the name of creating technology that he thinks will benefit the world but at the same time be a huge ego stroke. It was basically crossing the line into the dark side of the Tony Stark character. Unfortunately, I don't think it was handled as well as it sounded on paper.

I don't know.... that was a pretty nefarious plot.

Re-watching this again and I'm not sure what's not to like. This really is a comic book come to life in the most difficult sense: balancing the screen with all of the heroes and personalities and making it work.... it was tough enough to do in the comic books. The planning through of this movie I thought was sheer genius.
