Don't know if you read the books or not....

Re: Game of Thrones Season 4 (aka A Storm of Swords: Part Deux)

I just started reading the books a couple weeks ago, as I am not a big book reader and have been telling myself I never would since the show is sooo good, but now that I have I am glad I started. There is so much background information to the things we see on the show as well as deeper storylines that make things on the show make more sense, of course after the fact as I am still on book 1 which is I believe just season 1. I am getting a much better picture of the whole story and the world, which I guess is to be expected from the books as is usual. But to anyone who is thinking if its worth reading the books I say yes, there is so much more i have learned about each character, their stories and picked up on that I may have missed during the episodes.

^^ I'm not a big reader and I started reading the books last year in the middle of Season 3. I almost wish I didn't, the books are so amazing, so detailed and you're able to fully understand what's going on unlike in the show. The show has become a bit of a bore since I read the books, partially because you know what's coming but partially because so much is left out.

It was nice reading the books covering the portion of the story that I'd already seen in the TV show but once I passed it and read ahead my tune changed.

I never thought I'd be that guy saying that a book(s) is immensely better than the movie/TV show version of something but it's true x10 about ASOIAF.

Yea I would never imagine myself saying a book is so much better then the show, especially with a show as good as this one, I have always been a "why read the book when there's a show/movie" kind of guy, lol. Its going to be a while before I catch up to the point we are in the show, but Im sure with the year in between seasons I will get close but can easily see where it will get hard to not pass that point and then ruin the show, I will try not to though which might not be hard with the gaps in my reading times. lol

Yep I hated reading before picking up Game of Thrones. I'd never recommend skipping a book or using summaries to quickly get the story. Well maybe on your second re-read of the series for a Feast of Crows. Lol

I loved A Dance With Dragons (even Dany's chapters).

I started reading half way through A Storm of Swords right when season 4 ended, and there were a ton of minor differences that confused the heck out of me. If you decide to skip through, be prepared for a whole lot of googling and reading back. After finishing the book I felt like I was all caught up though, and had no trouble reading the other two.

I've been reading ADWD a ton since last weekend and I'm gonna try to finish it by next Sunday at the latest. I'm around page 800 currently.

Yeah, I use the summaries to go back and review things I don't remember from the books.

                        Podrick....

So it looks like Daavos will try to get the Iron Bank of Braavos to back Stannis. And the kingdom is in debt to said bank. And they want their gold back.

So, I take it Littlefinger has yet to go to the Vale and marry Lysa Tully? Dude can't get with Catelyn, will try with hot daughter instead.

So many times you guys mention a characters name that I'm not too familiar with so I have to highlight the name then right click, then search google for "character's name" lol.

Then the images immediately pop up of drawings and the actors playing said character in GOT and I'm like "Aahhhhhh him!".

I think so, be be mindful the site if fully caught up to the books, so there are MAJOR spoilers based on what has been written in the books. But yes if you do a little research and reading you will know what the hell is happening north of the wall.

This episode was pretty good I think. Tywin having that king talk right next to the dead king and his grieving mother had me laughing a bit.
