Affleck alone can drop that movie to a C+ and since he's the main character I understand the criticism. But honestly, other than him I really liked DD... liked the other characters, really liked how the story was going before he became an adult.

May be a coincidence that Ben is in this movie too? Maybe not, lol.

Marvel has had a long term vision for awhile and aren't afraid to roll out their plan slowly and in phases. It feels like DC saw what a success Marvel has been with their model and are trying to play catchup to establish their own DCCU. So instead of getting all the solo movies/shows where each character is well developed and fleshed out before the big crossover, we are just getting the big crossover. Right now, mentions of Jessica Jones or the attack on New York, or Luke Cage being a character on Jessica Jones is enough for the shows to share a common universe without it feeling forced or rushed. In due time the worlds will merge but the ride has been phenomenal and fans appreciate the slow burn. That's just my take though.
It's not just dark though, the netflix shows are catered to adults. I'll go back to my favorite disappointment... Spawn. The show was amazing, still probably my favorite but I haven't seen as many of the animated DC films as most around here. The movie was dark as it should be, but was clearly catered toward kids and that completely ruined it.

As for this movie, I maintain that in today's technology age, Superman is just a hard sell. The last movie was MUCH better but still falls short of most out there to me. I'll definitely see this at some point, but I'm pretty sure it won't rank too high on my personal list even if I can see how others might enjoy it more.

Some things are loved because they exist, things last though because they are good.

This won't gross $2b if opening weekend word of mouth reinforces the early wave of negative critical reviews. I know people that have seen it and are on the negative side of the fence due to pacing and ~30 minutes of pointless plot that wouldn't have been missed. They also have no idea how another 30 minutes could be added to make the thing a solid 3 hours and gain an R rating.

We're all going to see it, so we'll see. 24 or so hours from now I'll be headed to the theater, can't wait.

He basically wins every battle. Watching the combat in Man of Steel for me was very "meh," because I don't know at what end they were punching each other for. Didn't seem like they were hurting each other, like at all. Same with Hulk and Thor in the Marvel universe.

This is what made me curious about Batman v Superman to begin with, though I understand he can use Kryptonite on him. Still, it's a very iffy character to me.

That was awful. I read comics. I read dark comics. I love comics. If you don't like this movie you must not read comics. There's a lot to take in. People just don't get it. Killing Joke. I read comics. This isn't Marvel. So in conclusion, you will love it, hate it or have a mixed reaction (well, duh). PS. I read comics.

The problem is the head of it all. Zack Snyder is not fit to head this Dccu. It was a bad idea to have him be the one to bring this together. I saw mos bc I thought Chris Nolan would have helped zs make a decent movie. I quickly realized all he did was executive produce, and let zack Snyder kill superman again. I don't understand how wb thought it would be a good idea to let him direct batman v superman?? Did they even see Man of Steel? Did Snyder direct The Watchmen too?

Nm it's not much to read. But seriously they need to remove him from Justice League if they want to have a chance at competing with the Avengers

I really liked Watchmen and Man of Steel. They are two of my favorite movies so maybe ill like this movie.

As far as the dark and serious tone, at least they are trying to do their own unique thing in the comic movie genre instead of following the Avengers' or Xmen formulas.

They somehow pulled off a critically acclaimed dark/PG-13 movie with Dark Knight, so they can conceivebly do so here. Apparently there's an R rated version running a full three hours so I guess that will be amazing since it's geared towards adults? Something tells me that won't be the case, but who knows.

She was really using the "I read comics" angle as an argument against critics saying the sub plots within the movie don't go anywhere. She claims they don't either, but have significant meaning for comic book readers. She is a total comic book nerd, and I don't say that disparagingly.

I didn't think it was awful, maybe not well articulated, but it certainly convinced me she liked the movie, and I appreciated the passion. However I'm worried those subplots will whiz by me.

This might sound kind of stupid, but is there such thing as a film releasing two version of the same movie in theaters? I know The King's Speech eventually had a PG-13 cut (probably just removing one scene really), but I don't think it was with the R-rated version simultaneously.

If the R-rated version of BvS was actually better (not saying it will be, just hypothetically speaking), would it be stupid for them to release both versions at the same time? Just thinking out loud and wondering how that works.

I read some comics as a kid but not a hardcore reader by any means. I love superhero's in general with Superman being my fave. I am always open to how a film differentiates it's self from the source material. I don't need it to be exactly like in the comics if I like how they portray it then I'm fine with it. I actually prefer more serious dramatic tone which is what DC is going for compared to Marvel. Doesn't mean I hate Marvel as I enjoy how they are portraying there characters on the big & little screen. I'm still really looking forward to seeing the film on friday regardless of what reviewers say good or bad.

Yeah, would be confusing, because it's also out in 3D. Long running time already shortens number of available viewings somewhat, splintering that further into R and not-R showings wouldn't be a good idea.

They'd both also both have the 60 or whatever minutes of useless plot most people are complaining about.

But in order to have global appeal, you would need to consider that MOST people don't read comics and a larger numbers to to the movies. It's like the book angle on a movie. Don't make me read the book to understand and enjoy the movie.
