The introduction to Irina was brief, and I don't recall if there was a picture, but it basically happened at the station right before the shootout. It may have been mentioned prior that a prostitute had pawned them, but I don't think they went into specifics.

I'm going to need some detailed ep recaps.

Re: True Detective (Season Two)
All these criticisms could be due to the fact it was decided this season to have different writers/directors for each episode. Last season was not the case.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Re: True Detective (Season Two)
It's a shame the writing can't get out of it's own way. It's episode 6. Does anyone REALLY care about Stan's son, or care about Frank's wife at this point? Hell, even Ray's custody battle? It's crazy how much time has been wasted on arbitrary filler when there is still so much we don't know.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Ahh okay. I think it's coming back to me now. Jesus, some of this story is so convoluted.

All I know is that between the murders of Caspere and Stan, Frank getting his money stolen, Ray getting shot, the corrupt city officials, the land, the shootout, the missing girls, the sex parties, the Mexicans, the Torture Room, the potentially missing kid's in the photo (which has to be Tony and Betty Chessani, right?) , etc. I'm sure I'm missing some things, however all of this stuff has to start tying together or this will end up with more questions left unanswered than Season 1 did.
At this point there just seems to be a lot of pieces to this puzzle and eventually things have to start fitting together. Now is as good a time as any since there's only two episodes left.Last edited by jeremym480; 07-30-2015, 11:39 AM.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Re: True Detective (Season Two)
I think it would have been more interesting in a lot of ways if Velcoro was dead after episode 2. Talk about a jarring/bold direction for a series - not since "Psycho" has something like that been even tried.Comment

Re: True Detective (Season Two)
This is true, but considering he's been the most interesting character by far imo, that would've really sucked.Comment

OK, I stand corrected.
What if Velcoro really did die, and everything that happened since then in the show is a hallucination before he hits the pearly gates?
Yeah, nothing would surprise me at this point...Comment

Re: True Detective (Season Two)
How about this: a dream/hallucination of Rust Cohle's. Ha!
That would be the biggest cop-out ever.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: True Detective (Season Two)
Pizzolato walked out on his job with The Killing after just two episodes because he said he wanted control over the vision of a series.
Now, I'm not trying to kick the guy. He created a series that HBO loved and viewers seem to love. But, there is a reason he has different directors this season.
Last season he went with the one and both butted heads throughout the development and filming of the series. Nic wanted things his way, the director wanted to shape things as a director would. So the director jumped ship and Nic saw this as an opportunity to go episode-for-hire on directors. Basically, he just wanted someone to come in, film the damn thing he wanted and move on.
Yes, many other shows follow this format (which is why I don't buy any excuse that different directors is why the season is confusing), but to me it's just another example of the sort of control he desires despite not having the experience.
I think Season 2 is an example of what happens when you think you know too much and don't have anyone guiding you."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: True Detective (Season Two)
Have to agree w/ the above...Pizzolato isn't nearly as talented as he seems to think he is, and of course there's that whole thing about him plagiarizing a huge chunk of Rust Cohle's musings from season 1....
It's probably a case of too-big-too-fast, mixed with some hype-over-substance, with a little narcissism and douche-itis sprinkled in for good measure.
I'll still watch, but I'm not kidding myself that this is some singular television experience (just like I was w/ season 1, which was okay but not an epic TV experience). It's something to watch. That's about it.Comment
