Yeah, that could be it. It seems like his mother could have messed him up in all kind of ways.

I thought his mom was definitely being way too touchy so could be something there idk.

I found myself asking why should I care, but I'm enjoying Vaughn so far and now I'm finally curious what happens going forward in this case with that ending

You're not the only one. Mom was way too touchy.

                Agreed.
He's had the best scenes so far and I loved his line about 'sometimes bad things need to happen to straighten people out' when confronted about beating the poop out of the bullies dad.

                  Re: True Detective (Season Two)

                  Watched last night.

Colin Farrell has absolutely crushed his role. I forget it's him... great performance. Kitsch ain't far behind for my money. McAdams hasn't been too interesting but I think that's just around the corner. Vaughn's character had a good episode too especially at the beginning. Goodness, his childhood story was haunting... loved his scene after the one guy gets roughed up.

Can't wait for episode 3 and all that's yet to unfold.

True Detective has knocked it out of the park again, IMO. Season 1 stands alone but I'm digging this so far.

Definitely something with the mom. She used to molest him or something.

After the very first episode I made a bold prediction that one or more of the three leads would end up dead before the finale, though the "rock salt" theory is a very good one. There's no way if he was using real load that anyone could have survived that. Point BLANK shotgun to the gut? Ugh, no matter what he was using that is still brutal. That scene was pretty chilling.

Enjoying the second season so far. No as much as S1, but c'mon, how can you compare to Matthew/Woody in a buddy cop scenario? S1 jumped out at you immediately, while S2 is beginning a slow burn.

I checked and apparently one can survive a shotgun round or two to the chest if wearing a vest.

                            Didn't know that.

The chest shot sure, I could buy him maybe surviving that. Like if the killer shot him then ran. But he walked up and drilled him in the stomach point blank.

Point blank in the stomach??? Seems highly, highly unlikely. The only scenario I can see him surviving is if the killer wasn't using a regular shotgun load, as suggested. And I mean, visually you don't see any blood spraying off of Farrell when he's shot, so the killer using rock salt or bean bag loads could be the case.

But if the way he killed Casper is any indication, the way he did Velcoro doesn't seem to be his style.

After what I felt was sort of an average intro to Vaughn's character, not only in regards to depth but performance, I feel like he really shined in this episode and we got a greater sense of how desperate he can really become.

                                Man I can't wait for Episode 3.
