I'm pretty happy with the loose end tieing that went on in episode 7.

This season just is not doing it for me.

Last season I was practically frothing at the mouth to watch it every Sunday. Tonight I was just like "Well, I guess. Nothing else is on."

"Look me in the eyes. I want to watch your lights go out." Best Vaughn has been all season long. They should have given him more red meat like that and less aimless musing.

So what did we learn last night: everyone is in on everything? Good episode, but just way too much exposition in way too short a time. I can't even follow all the connections they're making in real-time. Also, and I've complained about this before, but someone needs to improve the sound mixing on this series - way too much mumbling and I can't hear/understand half the dialogue in most episodes without cranking my volume up to unholy levels.

I was surprised how disappointed I am that Woodrugh isn't at least gonna make it to the series finale. But it had to happen; I was thinking he was way too Rambo to be real. For him to take out that many professionally-trained guys...just seemed unlikely.

            Other observations/questions:

The scene where Ray finds the DA dead was nicely done. I like how he starts talking, then realizes "oh ****" and immediately bails. I feel like that's exactly how anyone would react in that situation.

So, this is a bit of a boring observation, but why wouldn't the team just go to the nearest all-night Kinko's and make about 300 copies of all the documents they had, then mail them to the FBI, CIA, Justice Dept., etc.? Or at least put a few copies into PO boxes and mail the keys to trusted people as insurance. That would have been my first thought right after they escaped from the mansion orgy...

Someone remind me: who are the orphans in the photos, exactly?

Yeah, he did a lot of musing, huh?

Yeah, his death was telegraphed. No way they let him live after he does all that.

Very telegraphed and the "I'll go nuts, kill a bunch of people and almost get out alive" cliche was pretty easy to see coming too. I didn't even flinch at the final scene, knew it was coming and didn't care on iota. I haven't been so unattached to characters in a drama in a long time.

That was a pretty enjoyable episode with a lot of the pieces of the puzzle starting to come together. My only complaint was with Paul's
                    Spoiler
. How did that dirty cop end up waiting at the exact spot that Paul came out? Didn't they just say that the tunnels ran all over the city, yet dude was just hanging out at that particular spot?

Other than that I thought the episode was pretty solid with the "Everything is ****ing" really being the most hilariously bad line. I'm actually pretty excited for the finale. Hopefully, it's a blood bath... All I have to say is that if this season ends with Ray and Frank holding each other at the hospital and spouting off some non-sense about the "light winning", then I'm going to have blue balls of the heart, for real.

Loved the TD1 ending but, that's just me.

Really? I thought that was the weakest part of the series by far, and actually soured me on the rest of the season. It was so...TV-movie-of-the-week. I was under the impression that it was pretty universally reviled, but it's good to hear some dissenting opinions. The 'universal opinion' is frequently wrong anyway.

So, since there's only 1 episode left this season: thoughts on who the person in the Raven mask is? Personally, I thought they telegraphed it a bit by having that person ace Woodrugh, but maybe not. Since we're now learning that everyone in the state of California (and Russia, apparently) is involved in the conspiracy, it literally could be anyone on the show. But my money is still on Burris.

I was fine with the two getting together and becoming friends. It was a shock to me that they both lived.

I think that last part was the annoying part...the whole ending, where the series seemed like something different - in fact insisted it was something different - but then at the ultimate moment, it became a cut-rate horror flick. The whole chasing the guy into the dark tunnels, voices echoing, then the bad guy has this super-human strength, and Cohle's Wolverine-like ability to actually survive being stabbed through the stomach and suspended in air, and yet still having the strength to find his gun and shoot the bad guy...then they both live and are just fine and dandy when it's all said and done. The whole thing just seemed cheap and cliche. Especially after spending a whole season shoving it in your face about how this wasn't just another standard cop procedural, then at the end of the whole season, it pretty much was exactly that.

I think season 1 was good until it snapped back to modern times. The flashback parts were great. After episode 4, though, IMO it was all downhill.

I'd put half of my money on Burris and the other half on Laura's brother... which I don't believe we have met yet. Although, I have a suspicion that we could have.

Also, I'm going to be disappointed if that they go into the reasons why they used the Raven mask and setting up Caspere's body like they did. Also why shoot Ray with rock salt instead of just outright killing him? I hope they answer those instead of just giving up the "TV reasons" like they did with all of the Red Herrings in Season 1.

Yeah, there's a hell of a lot of 'splainin' to do in just 90 minutes. And it better friggin' be good....
