The character of Winston was written as not just a scientist, but the most educated, most capable member of the team in the original Ghostbusters script. More suited for the job than any of the other three even. For whatever reason he was re-written to be unemployed and desperate for work with no qualifications.

Aykroyd conceived the film as a project for himself and fellow Saturday Night Live alumnus John Belushi, with the "Ghostmashers" travelling through time and space. He and Ramis dramatically rewrote the script following Belushi's death and after Reitman deemed Aykroyd's initial vision financially impractical.Comment

I'm sure there were other changes Aykoryd and Ramis made during writing the script out.

Also, just some more fun facts, John Candy was originally supposed to play Louis Tully and Paul Reubens was initially meant to play Gozer. So a lot of things changed from the pre-production stages to film.Comment

Re: GhostBusters Reboot/Spin off
Winston was also supposed to be played by Eddie Murphy, which is why he was written so strongly in the script. But Eddie ended up signing on to do Beverly Hills Cop and due to scheduling conflicts, was unable to play Winston in Ghostbusters, so they rewrote, scaled the role down and cast Ernie Hudson to play Winston as an "every man" type of a role to put the audience in his shoes to help the average viewer relate to some of the things Ray and Egon would say.Comment

Re: GhostBusters Reboot/Spin off
Oh definitely! Around that time he was the biggest name in comedy and in Hollywood. He probably would have totally stolen the show in the first Ghostbusters too. From what I read about the production of the movie, the scene where Bill Murray gets slimed was originally written for Winston, with Eddie Murphy in mind for the role.Comment

Re: GhostBusters Reboot/Spin off
Honestly, I can't imagine anybody else in those roles than who eventually ended up in the movie. Murray's deadpan and dry humor is a perfect contrast to the zany antics of the rest of the movie.

Speaking of "can't imagine someone else in that role", did you know that Beverly Hills Cop was originally written for Stallone in mind? Can you even imagine that?! Apparently he turned down the role because he didn't like the script.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: GhostBusters Reboot/Spin off
I love the Ghostbusters franchise very much, I grew up with it and have accepted its many forms, from the original movie, to its sequel, to its two animated series (Real and Extreme) and I read the IDW comic series and really enjoy it.
Needless to say, I was excited to hear a new movie was coming out and fully accepted the female cast, even though I wasn't thrilled with a couple of the choices, I never was a big Melissa McCarthy fan. But I really enjoy Kristen Wiig's previous work and the second I saw Kate McKinnon dressed in character in an on set photo, I thought she had the perfect look for what I want in a female Ghostbuster, she looks like a cross between a female Egon and Kylie from Extreme Ghostbusters.
But after seeing the trailer, I have to say I am really put off to this new movie. The humor looks like a really cheesy series of gags and just don't hit. That slapping gag in the trailer literally made me shudder and none of it felt like Ghostbusters. That has nothing to do with the main characters all being women. I really hate how some people online are pulling the feminist card in defense of this movie, I think thats a really lame and safe excuse to defend this movie and others like it. Like I said, I loved Extreme Ghostbusters growing up and liked Kylie, the first female Ghostbuster, who also reappears in the comic book series along with Janine taking up the Ghostbuster mantle and I thought that was cool too.
But the only things this trailer had me on were the shot of the firehouse and slimer. Those were literally the only two things that made me smile, everything else just really put me off and just felt so forced and more importantly, not funny. Even the look of everything really put me off, the coloring the cgi, it looked like the movie Pixels and thats a really bad sign! Even, like others mentioned, the opening lines in the trailer, calling back to the original movie, about the "four scientists" is wrong. It was three scientists and a guy desperately needing a steady paycheck! lol Granted later on in the franchise, in the 2009 video game (which is canon) Winston studies and becomes a Doctor, I really don't think the trailer was calling back to that. lol
I really hope this trailer wasnt a proper representation of the movie itself, because I love Ghostbusters and really want renewed interest in the franchise as a whole. This movie could do that, but not if the movie is like the trailer.
Ok, I'm ranting. lol Bottom line is, as a big Ghostbusters fan, this trailer just makes me really....sad.

Re: GhostBusters Reboot/Spin off
Glad it turned out the way it did. BHC is one of my favourite movies of all time. If it's on, I'm not turning the station.
Back on point, I just watched a trailer for the Ghostbusters remake.
I feel like I don't even have to watch the movie now because the trailer covered the entire plot in 2 minutes.Comment

Re: GhostBusters Reboot/Spin off
I am sorry but this looks terrible.
I am so not looking forward to all of the merchandise they are going to push for this lame remake.
And I am sure we are going to have to hear the Ray Parker song 17 million times when this movie drops.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: GhostBusters Reboot/Spin off
In a perfect world, it would be. But the reality of it is there will always be someone out there who quickly try to label other people as haters (and I really dont like using the word ***** lol) matter how valid their arguments may be.Comment
