My brother did his undergraduate work at a small school in Maine. I think I was like 10 or 11 and I went out to visit him and I was reading It at the time. I only remember two things from that trip:

A.) Seeing ticks for the first time. There were bugs everywhhhheeerrreee

B.) Finding out that Derry wasn't a real town. I thought it was an actual place and was like "how close is Derry to Brunswick?"

It's funny you mention that. I was born and raised in Bangor, Maine about 5 minutes from Stephen King's house. I've met him a few times and he's always been pretty chill which is remarkable considering the amount of crazies that hang out around his house trying to catch him out and about. We even have bus tours that drive by his house and various places referenced in his books.

Growing up here definitely makes some of his stories feel more "real" I guess you could say. He's always referencing various landmarks in and around where I've lived so that definitely contributes to it.

I Have the book but opened it up and the first 100+ pages are missing, so going to buy it...lady at work gave me a few Stephen King books. Will they all have part 1 and 2? Saw it at Target for like 8$ then saw one for 20-30? The one at Target is a Reprint.

Yah it's one book, story is just split into basically two time periods. I had the OG paperback somewhere in my garage but I can't find it. Probably gonna buy it on kindle and re-read it soon

I have it in paperback, but still going to buy it on Kindle so I can have it on my phone for ease. Such a damn good book - usually a once a year read for me.

My favorite King work on film is easily Christine with Misery close behind.

For me it was Christine and then Cujo...have never seen Misery. Need to check that out, heard it was good

Yup. Comes in handy when I don't have my Kindle with me and want to read. The app works incredibly well.

Are we talking strictly the horror King films because Shawhsank Redemption and Green Mile (and to a lesser extent Stand By Me)blow every one of his other adaptations out of the water by a wide, wide margin IMO.

If we're talking of his horror stuff...eh. Misery, probably and The Stand's adaptation, though that's one I want to see remade, but for as big of a fan of his books as I am, I have not liked many of the movies.

It's good, to me at least. The book is a little more brutal but the movie did a good job at the time.

Me personally talking about Horror, yeah Shawshank, Stand By Me and The Green Mile would be toward the top along with Christine overall.

Shawshank is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen, for sure. I was just talking horror novels/short stories

Bolt,

I always really liked his collections of short stories. Everything's Eventual is probably my favorite. Full Dark, No Stars is another (that's not really short stories, just 4 mini novels kinda). Those two are more recent so maybe I'm giving them unfair credence.

For novels, I was always really partial to Hearts in Atlantis and Dreamcatcher. Bag Of Bones is one of my favorites as well

I am probably in the minority, but I didn't really consider that a great read. I just remember parts that seemed borderline silly, but I admit the same could be said about Dreamcatcher
