          Re: Stephen King's "It" (2017)

Saw the movie last night with the wife and some buddies, theater was completely full. We all liked it, I've seen the mini-series and one of my buddies has read the book. The movie was awesome. I guess some people were expecting a horror movie!? Do those people not know what "It" Is? It's not suppose to be a horror film. Like one of my wife's Facebook friends who calls herself "the horror queen " said the movie was scary. I laughed at her comment because it's not meant to be a horror film.

On the movie itself, the kids were excellent. They really sold the movie on their friendship and bond. Pennywise was also EXCELLENT and PERFECT. The actor nailed that role so well. But there were a couple of scenes that as the audience we couldn't make out because the sound was sort of muffled with the ambient noise being louder than the actor.

Can't say it enough, the movie was awesome. The first scene with pennywise, spectacular.

That first scene was a jaw dropper in every sense of the word.

It was. Since I was unaware of the source material and avoided all of the trailers, I literally had no idea that what would happen was going to happen.

If you watch the 1990 movie sewer scene you'll see why the new movie scene is so much more shocking.

Ah yes, I watched that after seeing the movie and its trailers. Many older horror films don't creep me out. No matter what people say, I just don't get affected by them. I don't think IT would have frightened me much.

EDIT: Then again, new horror films don't creep me out much either, though there are rare exceptions. At least old ones didn't ever rely entirely on jump scares.

Just came from seeing it and loved it, thought it was really well paced and loved the way the kids played their parts. The guy playing Penny Wise nailed it.

                    The opening scene..

I'm curious after seeing it but what type of movie is "IT" if not a horror film? I haven't seen the original and haven't read much of the book yet but to me it seemed like a horror movie.

It's somewhat hard to explain. Yes there are horror moments in the film but it's more about the bond of these children and bow they overcome their fears. The scares are meant to scare the child, not necessarily the audience. It's not the conjuring, it's not trying to terrify the audience but to show them how fear paralyzes most people.

Yes there are jump scares but I wouldn't say this is a movie you're going to walk into and leave terrified.

Exactly how I would describe it as well. The scares are definitely meant more for the children in the movie than the audience.

Ok I see what you mean but I kinda have to change my thought on it, I look at it like the movie is made for the audience just telling the kids story.

Like in the Conjuring...(funny you brought that up cause that's the movie I was thinking of while responding to you) things that went on in that movie were for the family that lived there and about what they had to deal with and we as the audience get a scare out of it.

Actually it just hit me after I typed that about the Conjuring more of what you meant but left it up there anyway.

BTW The kid that played Georgie did a hell of a job also.

Good description but it's still classified as a drama/horror film.

But I get the description completely.

I just don't think myself or the audience that I was with were going to really pee our pants watching this film. I'm trying to comfort my younger sister and assure her this so that she will go see a good, funny movie.

Actually, if they pee their pants I think they may do it of laughter. I understand it's a lot of immature jokes, but I really think it worked for their age; any older and it would have been an eye-roller.
