Re: Cord cutting
I've been on the fence the past few months about dropping Charter/Spectrum for all but internet. At the time our bill was around $160 for TV (with HBO and SHowtime), internet, and phone.
The bill this month went up to $200. Our latest negotiated price deal ran out. I'm sick of having to play let's make a deal with them every year or two just to get close to a good deal. I've reached my breaking point.
We never use the landline, so that is zero loss. I'm going to try Vue this weekend. Are the non-local channels "live"? I understand the local ones are not. For that I'm going to try a leaf 50 of something similar. I tried a RCA indoor 40 mile range antenna about a month ago to mixed results. I'm hoping a better one with an amplifier will improve the reception and consistency. I really don't want to install one on the roof and then wire it through 2 stories.
Our internet is 60MBs. I think that will be sufficient for the four of us in the house. Right now I'm the usually the only one that watches cable. The wife and kids are streaming Netflix, Youtube videos, or PS gaming. So far that has been fine.
With all the other options available now, I'm a little surprised the cable companies aren't doing more to keep their cable TV customers.Comment

Re: Cord cutting
I got a couple steps closer to dropping cable TV. The Leaf 50 antenna is a vast improvement over the RCA one I tried initially. I'm able to hang it on the wall and get almost-perfect reception of all the local channels.
Tonight I have to call Sony to get Vue set up correctly. It somehow thinks I'm 5 hours away from my actual location so it won't activate. If Vue works as advertised then cable TV goes bye-bye. The switch will save us about $60 a month.Comment

Re: Cord cutting
My first night with Vue has been mixed. On a tablet and roku the picture seems fine, but on the ps3 the Fram rate is inconsistent. Odd that performance is worst on sonys own device.
The only other complaint I have is that I can't seem to get the local fox sports to watch baseball. I can use the fox sports go app and log in using my vue account and find it there. That's odd too.Comment

Re: Cord cutting
If any fellow Cordcutters are looking for an OTA DVR solution, Tivo is currently having a 72 hour flash sale on their renewed OTA Roamio w/lifetime guide for $250. I have been using this since Black Friday and has made catching up on network shows a lot easier than using the network apps. Has 4 tuners and the hard drive is easily upgradeable, too.

Re: Cord cutting
There are sites that have free sports not local, sports from everywhere and everything. The one I use is called Firstrow Sports. You can watch any NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL game live. Plus tons of others sports and leagues. It can be a little tricky with pop ups to get to the game, but it works.Comment

Re: Cord cutting
I'm leaning towards getting PS Vue when my DirecTV contract is up in August. What's everyone's thoughts on fire stick vs roku for streaming it? And we have a few shows on CBS we watch so what's people's thoughts on the CBS all access?GT dericksun

Re: Cord cutting
I've had very few issues using Vue on my Fire Stick. I can't comment on CBS All Access though. Never used it.Comment
