    Re: Cord cutting

Honest question? How much money are you guys saving. My Comcast Bill right now is $144.

If I would do only internet package it will $80. PSVue package I would want is $54.

So to cut cable it's only saving me $10.

I am saving about $80 a month but will be saving about $120 a month very soon.
I was paying $199 a month for cable and wifi with Comcast.
I am paying $79 for wifi now and $44 a month for PSVue.
Our town is getting wifi very soon that will be part of your utility bill for $29 a month.
I honestly love the VUE. I bought a fire stick so I get it in 3 rooms in my condo for $44 a month. Comcast charged me $10 per box per room.
Also my GF has firestick at her house that I downloaded my Vue onto too.
So I can watch it when I am at her house too now for no extra charge as she doesn't even have cable.

Yeah, my internet goes from $45 to $65 if I drop my cable subscription, so that yanks $20 of savings I could get from cutting the cord. But some folks are getting internet from other sources, which means they actually do get all of their savings.

But I'm not going to find 100 Mbps internet for less than $65 a month, so I have to keep my Charter internet.

I feel like I lucked out with Charter, because they offer a great bottom rate plan. I get 10 channels of my choice and local channels, and with internet it comes to $88.

And I'm addicted (actually, my wife is more so, to using a non-cloud DVR.
I was not impressed with what passed for cloud DVR features on the various streaming sites. They convert shows to OnDemand, which then force commercials on you. They also limit how long you can save content, and some have limited space, and what money, every month, to give you more, while I can buy an external hard drive for my TiVo.

Basically, I can move to streaming and get more channels, that I don't need, a worse DVR experience, and pay a bit more than I am now. I would save on my TiVo bill, but I would keep it if the streaming services let me use it overhear "solutions." Oh, and the streaming services only offer stereo sound.

Steaming cable is the future and what we will all have sooner or later. I'm just waiting for it to get better. Right now, it is still at least a bit worse of an experience.

And seriously, my wife pitches a fit when we can't FF through a commercial (like when we have caught up). She was this way before DVRs. If we were watching a show on Tv and it went to commercial, she would start channel surfing to avoid the commercials, and we would regularly not get back in time. So the DVR is a huge deal for us.

I'm super happy folks are embracing the streaming options because that is what is going to drive improvements. But for me, I just find the options wanting.

Yeah, I try to take advantage of the FIOS 39.99 plan for new customers. My current contract is up in a month and I'm moving, so I'll have my wife sign up to lock in 39.99 for a year and 49.99 for year 2. With $40 for 100/100 and $40 for DTVNOW Go Big plan, it is the best of both worlds.

I really like having the ability to just watch while I'm at work or away from home anywhere.

My Comcast bill was 260$ per month for basic plus sports package. It was all the rental fees for the boxes. (3 TVs). Was a total no brainer for me cut it down to 110 per.

While i'm not cord cutting I am contemplating joining a streaming service. I thought i'd share the links to them in case anyone's interested:

The first is BritBox which is nirvana for Anglophiles. The big attraction for this though is all 26 series of Classic Doctor Who. I'm leaning towards this one as i never got to finish my big Who watch. The only downside is that they don't include reconstructions for the many lost episodes. I'll have to dig around online for those but that's a small detail.

The other is CBS All Access which is slimmed down here in Canada as we don't have the sports part of it but there are a lot of classic TV shows they have listed that i'd love to revisit.

No idea, but it's a ton since I cut two years ago. I only do Netflix and Hulu though,so savings for me or a lot more than they would be if you're wanting the PS Vue package.

For sports I go to in-laws or somewhere else (did have sling for college football games) don't care much about baseball or NBA, so not having a sports channels doesn't really affect me, plus I really don't watch much TV anyway.

Doesn't Amazon Prime have Dr. Who? You may not have that, but worth a check

They have the rights to New Who. (though I think the Canadian rights are on Crave.TV which is a Canadian OTT streaming service)

That's cool. The rest of us love paying for what we watch so you have plenty of stuff to steal.

Kind of weird DirecTV is such a big sponsor of the NFL and carries Sunday Ticket, but didn't have NFL Network.
