Of course the comparison to BB was a heavy lift for Good Girls right off the bat.

Looking at the tone from another angle they could have stayed at network level and spit out something like Shades Of Blue or American Crime. These shows either bleeped out or refrained from bad language but their intentions and attitude were "nothing nice" (LOL). A few Shades Of Blue scenes had me in disbelief that NBC could get away with showing them. Bottom line is it's not always about language, but more about attitude.

Of course the other problem is GG's "intended tone". Isn't this really a "network comedy-drama"? Once they chose that path they were kind of boxed in.

It still could have worked (IMO). I like both The Shield and Blue Bloods two series at the opposite ends of the police show spectrum, so I can enjoy a show with less attitude, just not Good Girls.

I see what you mean. I didn't really know what to expect from this show from the get-go, and I expected a bit of a lighter tone when all was said and done. It isn't short of a few stressful moments, but yeah it's not as "dark" as I think it could/should have been. In no particular time do I feel a big threat to these women's lives, and people around them dying seems equally as far-fetched. The pilot made me think it was possible, but then Leslie sprung back to life in the next episode and all was good there I guess.

I probably won't stay invested forever, though. Like I said, how long will they keep up what it is they're doing right now? How long is this season, in fact? Do you think next season there will still be involvement with Rio? Etc.

My main hook to this show actually was that Matthew Lillard is in it.

Man, I was stunned at what Hannibal got away with on NBC, can't think of a better example of "wow this is network?"

I hope it keeps loosening because I'm tired of expecting tame shows from the 4 majors, then I see a new netflix original and get excited to watch even if the subject matter doesn't usually appeal to me, I like how the shows aren't tethered by safety keepers and the writers/producers can do what ever they want

Alex Inc. doesn't appear to be well received (40% Rotten Tomatoes, 5.8 IMDb) but it cracks me up most of the time. Michael Imperioli is hilarious. Hope it gets another season.

We still love Timeless but looks like it's hosed. Holding out hope, same for Scorpion.

I'll have to figure out what shows are renewed this summer and catch up on a few...

I didn't realize this series and Biel received such critical acclaim. Carrie Coons has now signed on for season two. Did it evolve into an anthology series revolving around Bill Pullman’s Detective Harry Ambrose character or was that always the intention?

Had no idea there was even going to be a second season.

The series did centre around Ambrose, he was totally obsessed with Jessica Biel's character, Cora. I believe the show got two Golden Globe noms. Really enjoyed it, Biel and Pullman were excellent.

If this was the one on USA last summer, I don’t think it was scheduled to go past 1 season. I remember it being advertised as an 8 part miniseries.

Mini-series means nothing, just Tv's way of saying it doesn't have a full season of episodes. If it is successful, it gets another season, if not, it ends and they play it off as a mini-series.

Not sure what they will use for season 2 though.

I expect them to do the same with this show as ABC did with Secrets and Lies. The show revolved around Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis). It had 2 seasons. She was the detective in both series. Each season had a new story with all new characters. I expect the same with Harry Ambrose.

No, I only meant the other show had only 2 seasons. ABC cancelled it. I don't really know how long they would go with this show. As I said earlier, I didn't even know a second season was even in the offing. Is Jessica Biel still part of it? She was the executive producer wasn't she?

This is what I just read:

"While Biel will not be returning in the role of Tannetti in the second season, she will be coming back as an executive producer."

EDIT: I think it was USA's #1 show, and the top NEW cable series of 2017.

I think that happened with Fargo as well.
