D&D for whatever reason decided explaining any magic in a FANTASY series was to be done as little as possible. It left a ton of holes in the story and for what? My best guess is they’re not fans of the fantasy genre or they believed less magic made GOT more palatable for a broader audience.

Re: Game of Thrones: Season 8 (Final season)

Think they missed out on using that in a more classic GOT way in the last episode (me playing writer. And we remove the scene where Jon burns his hand lol)...

      - Jon is brought to Dany the same way Varys was
      - She sentences him to to death. Drogon appears
      - Passive aggressive "Dracaryus"

Now at this point, it's a scene we've seen before. So some viewers are expecting the same fate for ol Jonny from it being set up in the same way. Not only that, but at this point, it's been so long in the show that most viewers have forgotten that Targaryens can't burn.

Then there will be others who do remember and be all like "Omg. So predictable. He can't burn. It's not going to hurt him. Now all of a sudden she forgot he's Targaryen? Of course she did. DnD suck."

      - Drogon lights Jon the F up. Flames completely engulfing him
      - Then expectedly or unexpectedly (depending on the viewer) Jon survived the fire

Now the viewers are all like "Oh ****. I forgot! He's Targaryen. Can't burn! Haha!"

And our more shrewd viewers, "Duh [emoji849]"

      - Jon and all the characters there watching are completely in shock
      - Except Dany
      - She says something like "I'm sorry. I had to be certain." Goes and sits on the throne.

Now viewers are confused from the abstract statement. The hell does that mean?

      - Dany... "Valar Morghulis" or "Greyworm" or something else clever lol
      - Greyworm slits Jons throat from behind

Everybody got got! Our casual and the "smarter" fans alike. You experience relief after Jon doesn't die. Hopeful and giddiness about his Targaryen bloodline. Jons the man!

      Sike!

"If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention!" This is GOT mfers! [emoji41][emoji23]

Anyone catch the documentary? I thought it was great.

Funny you could see the actor who plays Varys looked like how he died during the table reading. Did like Kit's reaction to the Dany death scene.

Also big WTF knowing the Night King actor is a veteren stunt man who assist on fight choregraphy and was also the knight that fought young Ned Stark who double weilded swords didn't get a chance to show off his sword skills with The Night King

                    With no explanation.

Which is par for the course for S8.

                    Was it just magic?

Re: Game of Thrones: Season 8 (Final season)

We got confirmation that Arya "jumped off a pile of dead wights" to kill the Night King. Okay...

Hilarious seeing the actor who played the Night King, "How can that girl kill the Night King?"

Loved seeing the reactions from the table read; if only we could have seen that in its entirety. It was more gripping and emotionally moving than any part of S8. Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington's reactions as he read the final scene between the two was great to see. Conleth Hill's reaction was gold. It seems like only the youngest of actors (the Stark children, mainly) didn't have a negative reaction at the table. I wonder if there's a single cast member who approved of S8. Even some of the directors and behind the scenes folks weren't impressed.

Re: Game of Thrones: Season 8 (Final season)

I spent some time over the weekend watching YouTube clips of the show (character highlights reels and season recaps) and noticed how Westorosi vernacular all but disappeared from the last two season's dialogue. Stuff like "Seven Hells", swearing "by the old gods and the new" and stuff like that. All of those sayings that added a phenomenal sense of immersion seemed to be forgotten about. I don't recall much, if any, of it being in the last two seasons. A "valar morghulis" here and there. I think that's part of why the dialogue felt so generic and bland.

Charles Dance, Jack Gleeson, and Michelle Fairley added so much to the earlier seasons, plus with Varys and Littlefinger being in their prime. Tyrion too.

The same issue with the books, after A Storm of Swords, was felt in the show. When you kill off so many awesome characters you are playing a dangerous game--pun intended--of leaving a chasm that can't be filled with new characters; it's doubly difficult in television since you have to replace great actors in addition to the great characters they play. While S7 and especially S8 were underwhelming, S5 and S6 were already noticeably worse than S1-4. I'm looking forward to a rewatch over the summer to see how things compare without a year or more break in between seasons.
