I rewatched all of these a few months back.

All of them have something going for them except for The Ghost Dimension. 1 is just a good intro getting the feet wet, 2 sets up the mystique of different camera angles plus innocents you wouldn't want to be haunted (children and dogs) while connecting to 1, 3 is a blast to the past and has some of the better haunting elements, 4 probably has the most likeable protagonists, and The Marked Ones is easily the most entertaining and finds a way to separate its plot structure from the rest.

But I rewatched The Ghost Dimension, and man that one is a wreck. Wrong choice after wrong choice was made for this movie, probably starting with making it in 3D. I think the decisions made in the end were probably the right ones, but the execution was absolutely dreadful and is a sour continuation of what could have been done after the end of The Marked Ones.

I don't know what "an unexpected retooling" is of this, but I hope that it retains the good parts of 1-3 the most regarding build-up, if not evolving into something else completely different. Maybe they'll do what those shows do today having ghost/demon hunters, who knows? Either way, I'm excited.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Since a couple of us were taking about Friday the 13th, here is a cool new meta fan film called 13 Fanboy coming out just in time for Halloween. It's directed by Deborah Voorhees, yes that's her real name. She played Tina in part V. It has a bunch of actors in it from the actual movies who are being stalked by a deranged fan of the movies.

Re: OS Official Horror Movie Thread

Heh nice, my friend's movie (Haley Bishop) is now the scariest movie of all time.

I show extreme bias in saying that I enjoyed my time watching it, but science or not I can definitely say that it didn't quite frighten me that much. Perhaps it's because I've seen the Unfriended and Paranormal Activity films so its nature wasn't quite as novel, but I'm happy it's up there just to get the attention.

And this is quite an interesting kind of measure, because for me the scariest movies are the ones that linger with me the most afterward, which Sinister really does but not as much during (which is ironic since it's way up there for other people). I can think of a lot of other non-horror movies which get my BPM up really high watching though, such as United 93 and The Mist.

Not to mention, movies that constantly keep your heart rate up aren't necessarily scarier. Sometimes getting those dynamic moments really can get scary moments scarier altogether, and movies that can effectively pace that out (such as The Ring) get me a lot more than one that would be maybe jump scare after jump scare.

            Lmao such bunk.

I agree with Blzer. The ones that linger and stay with you and get inside your head. The ones you think about for days, the ones that make the hair on your arms stand up when talking about them.

            That is true horror.

Thank god it's over! I was to the point where I didn't care who won.

So happy this is behind us now. Hopefully Miller will be open to working with Cunningham, or at least giving his blessing for the series to continue feature film wise.

Like they said, it will probably be a bit before we see anything, but this opens up so many possibilities. What a mess, and what a relief.

I'm kinda going random with what I feel like watching. Started with F13 part VI last night at midnight. I have the blu-ray collection. And this is the first time I've watched any of the movies on that format, and it looks really good.

Not even sure what I'll watch tonight. Pick something for me in the big three slashers? lol

Sounds like a plan. Other than the original, easily the best sequel. With New Nightmare getting an honorable mention.

If anyone wants to join me. I'm gonna give an unpopular opinion of me liking a universally panned horror movie by fans and critics.

Nightmare 2010 was actually not that bad. I liked the whole micro-nap thing.
