Agreed, though I am more tolerant of Limp Bizkit than most.

Another good cover would be The White Stripes cover of "Jolene" which was originally done by Dolly Parton.

It is pretty bad. The somber mood of Dylan's song is completely gone from this cover. This is supposed to be a depressing song, not an upbeat one.

          Better than...
          2) Darling Nikki - Foo Fighters (original by Prince)
          6) Like A Virgin - Incubus (original by Madonna)
There is no way either of these two covers are better than the original. To me, it isn't just about the sound, but the time and setting as well. Those two songs were pretty taboo back when they came out and "Darling Nikki" was x-rated back in 1984 (I think that's when it came out).

Now they are just two more songs that MTV won't think twice about the lyrics.

Well I'm a big Incubus fan, so any cover they do is good by me.

And obviously I wasn't around back in 1984 so I wouldn't really get the impact when it came out, but I tried listening to it and it was just brutal to me. I like some Prince, but that definitely wasn't some of his best. I felt like Foo Fighters did a better job.

To each his own though. That's what makes music great.

Eagles of Death Metal's cover of "Stuck in the Middle with You" originally by the Stealers Wheels. Eagles of Death Metal re-titled the song to "Stuck in the Metal."

              I love it.

I was listening to a live cover of "Walking in Memphis" by DMB, and it is as good or better than the original by Marc Cohn.

IMO, nothing can beat Marc Cohn's version.

Lonestar did a cover, and it was pretty bad.

Check it out first. I like Cohn's version, but I REALLY like DMB's cover.

Motley Crew covering Anarchy in the UK came on TV while I was reading this topic. Not better or as good as the original just thought it was funny.

Re: Covers Good or Better Than Original?

Got a few more to add to this since last posted, so I figured a bump was in order...

                        Better Than:
"Superman" - The Receiving End of Sirens (original - Stereophonics)

                        As Good As:
"Against All Odds" - The Postal Service (original - Phil Collins)
"With A Little Help From My Friends" - Joe Cocker (original - The Beatles)

I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
