    E3 Opinion: 360 Outclassed

"Outclassed? Undoubtedly. Sony's hardware, its software, and even its simple display of confidence in its own product have completely outclassed Microsoft today - but while there can be little doubt about the outcome of this particular battle, it'd be a foolish man who assumed that the war was over yet. What Sony has done unto Microsoft today, Microsoft did unto Sony not so many years ago - and software giant is unlikely to take a defeat at E3 lying down. This tug of war has a long way to go yet."

Translation: It still isn't over yet so don't get all pissy over this article K ^_^

My impression of the sony/microsoft thing at e3? Sony showed a preview. a trailer, thats it. there was nothing on the floor showing off the new system. microsoft on the other hand, did have some things running on the new system. And the onlline capabilities and streamlining of their live service puts it a step ahead of sony(sony has not said anything about its online plans other then "yes, you can go online with the ps3").

Some of the games running the 360 dev kits looked like they could be coded on the current generation, but its all speculation until the final game comes out with the final kits.

I dont want previews. i dont want a company telling me that their system can "create artificial life" and then give me a game with updated graphics which looks like it could run on the current gen systems. I digress; i really did not come back from the show thinking sony did anything other then last minute "we are better!" presentations.

one thing was certain, the new xbox controller feel damn good in my hands. i didnt even get to hold the new ps3 controller, which doesnt look too bad either; guess i wont know till later.

I think penny arcade's article and cartoon summed it up best.

I have to agree with the article sony's experience shined through

What you seen was not CGi but target videos just like the madden commercial and look how that turned out. And alot of those videos had actual in footage just running at 1080i/p just look at hevanly sword everything but her face at the beginning was actual gameplay

And ya gotta agree with this part "This tug of war has a long way to go yet"

Im still holding out hope before i say the 360 is xbox 1.5 just because most of the games at e3 were running on Asdk's and looked like upgraded xbox games in GFx and scope doesnt mean the final game will look like that.

          Time will tell

each game segment lasted all but 5 seconds...at one point i beleive they showed off tekken, but all they did was show one of the fighter's forearm. some of it could have been real time, but i am pretty confident with my belief that most of it was pre rendered cgi.

they said "create artificial life". This is the same group who said the ps2 would bring us a level of detail like toystory with the fabled emotion engine, and they gave us fantavision.

if the games look this good at release, and everyone is just floored at how realistic they look compared to this generation's release, i will simply come back here and eat crow. I dont have a problem being wrong, but i wont sit there and take bs just because everyone else does.

And for the record, i want nothing more then all of these companies to succeed. I can afford all the systems if i wanted to and want nothing more then to be as immersed and entertained as i possibly can. Just dont tell me stuff that is supposed to impress me from a marketing standpoint. i have a problem with that kind of thinking.

hell, nintendo can come out and say that the revolution will help you raise your kids. It will learn how to customize itself on your gaming tendencies, etc. I saw some of the xbox stuff, and alot of it looked like it could be done this generation, but i was impressed with the live service stuff. its all highly suspect until realized and proven at face value.

i apologize if i came off sounding a bit angry. i truly aint(must be a cuban thing )

it's just that at some point you have to put your foot down and not buy into the marketing unless you are seeing and feeling the difference. this goes beyond gaming, but thats for another discussion. ( and no i dont hate marketing people, i just think they are a bit on the dark side )

I agree with you Bacardi, unfortunately we've seen this crap before (PS2) and its happening again. I hope both Sony and Microsoft work their butts off for us so we can enjoy games even more in the next generation. I don't care who wins the console wars as long as we ultimately win. However, the only thing that we really know exists is the Live stuff, and that is enough for me to buy a 360. Integrating it into your TV watching is amazing and very useful I think.

I'm not talking about Tivo, I meant you can talk to other people while you're watching a show and stuff like that.
