      Re: Xbox 360 Pricing Announced

definitely cheaper to buy the $399 one in the long run considering the price of the stuff you get with it compared to buying them seperate.

      Hard drive: $100
      wireless controller: $50
      headset: $20
      media remote: $30
      component cables: $40

That is $240 dollars of extras for only $100 if you buy the $399 one.

That makes me feel better. I'll have to let this sink in more, still worried about it, but we'll see.

To me this article contradicts the other article. I am now very skeptical about the 360. It makes me uncomfortable that they are releasing two consoles. Programmers will no doubt program for the inferior version. I feel cheated by MS on this.

There was a little video Allard did promoting the 360 and I also believe that it was posted as standard on xbox.com's website (of course after today they probably took it down for fear of ridicule), unfortunately I cannot get to any direct links at this time because I'm at work and get get on those sites because of my work's firewall.

I don't care if anyone says they didn't state it because I know I saw this information posted on xbox.com and on that ourcolony.net site.

Why couldn't they just put the system out with a Hard drive and and a wired controller and people could have just purchased a wireless as their second controller, just like the old xbox.

Lol. I dont uderstand why everyone is getting so hype.I remember when the PS2 first came out, most stores were forcing poeple to get a $500 dollar bundel. It included a DVD remote, memory card, and two games which you had to pick from a group. That bundle sucked. Aleast Xbox360 you get a HD, composite cables, remote, ethernet cable, wireless controller, and 2 of any games for around the same price. Also, for those who want to save money on accessories buy the third party ones. At first it seems overwhleming, but at a closer look it isn't that much of a difference compared to the current gen launch was.

                    From Gamespot:
The analyst adds, "As far as the publishers are concerned, Microsoft needs to make sure that publishers are making games that can be played with or without a hard drive, and I think they are communicating this message."
If thats the message they are sending, then it sounds like the harddrive will be underutilized, which is stupid.

It makes no sense to me to buy an Xbox 360 at launch, knowing what I know now about the 360, and not knowing what the competition will offer in the end. And all speculation points to an eventual price drop once the PS3 is launched anyways. Patience is a virtue I possess and videogames are not an integral part of life, so waiting a year or so does not bother me in the least if it will save me money or give me the option of purchasing a superior product.

I still may find a way myself to get this, but my other reason not to is because the only games I ever play anymore are sports games and I honestly don't believe the sports games coming out on the 360 this year are going to have all of the features from the xbox or ps2 versions. I saw an interview on G4 with the Madden developers and even they stated that their focus this year was on the ps2 and xbox and they had a seperate team developing the 360 version, the main team is still on this generation not the next generation and I believe that may hold true for most of the sports released this year on the 360. (who knows maybe I'm wrong and all the new features will make it in the 360 versions)

Here's the ourcolony video. Nowhere does it mention the HDD comes standard.

Also, yes it was mentioned on Xbox.com under the specs, but it didn't say it comes standard, and maybe people should've read the fine print below the spec sheet.

All this defense of Microsoft, Why? Ok maybe it wasn't in that video but I know I heard it somewhere, maybe it was the E3 presentation. The fact is why didn't they just keep the packaging the same Wired controller with a Hard Drive for the same price as the previous one.

Oh who cares I'll probably end up getting one anyway.

By the way the warranty price may not be $50 that was a warranty eb offered last gen at $300 since the system is now 400 the warranty price may go up too.

The way I look at it they should have included the HD with the core package so they're actually only giving you a Wireless controller, HD cables, headset, DVD remote and an ethernet cable which is also a good deal because if you have Xbox live you need the headset anyway. I didn't need the DVD remote but probably would have eventually purchased it anyways. The HD cables I don't need since I'm only hooking up to a standard tv and the ethernet cable I didn't need because I'll just use the one I'm using on my current Xbox.

I'm probably going to wait this one out a bit. $400 + the cost of games... I could put that towards a new computer, or a low-end HDTV. Especially since I don't game as much as I used to, and had a negative experience with the original (Thompson-drive) XBox.

Of course once everyone on OS has a 360, I'm sure I'll be dying for one.

For some reason people think Sony will now release their system for upwards of $500. And I really have to clue why people would think something like that. There is pretty much no way Sony would be ignorant enough to see the X360's price of $400, then say "well, we need to make ours MORE expensive than theirs to compete." I expect Sony to release the console at $400, then let the consumers know that at that price, just how much more standard features consumers will get from their PS3s than the X360. People just throw out numbers such as Blu-Ray drives being $1000, so that must mean that the console itself will be close to that expense. People have to understand that consoles dont' work that way price wise. You have to remember that when the DVD players first came out they were extremely expensive, and yet the PS2 had one in it standard and sold for $300. Also realize that most of the features being added to the PS3 have been produced in-house by Sony themselves. The Bluetooth technology, Blu-Ray, Cell, RSX, have all been fully developed or co-developed in-house by Sony. This means that loyalty fees will not be considered when adding these items into the console and this will lower costs substantually.

I'm a little more cooled down now. Man, I'm still hurt though. If only they'd just scrap that core and go with the $400 as standard. And the games, oh how I really don't want to think about the games. I hope that ebay is still my friend after a while when my pocket change is low. Maybe some of you "rich" guys could hook us poor guys up with "discounts" off of games that ya'll won't be playing anymore? Hey, toss me a message and we can work something out....
