I agree, there is no reason now not to wait until both systems are available.

The fact that you're getting that built in as opposed to spending an extra $100 for one on the X360 is the point I was trying to make. Even if the whole world isn't wireless, having the feature as standard from the beginning is a great advantage to have (especially if the PS3 is priced at the $400 point most people have rumored it to be). Having a lot of controllers simultaneously is a great feature especially for sports games and party games. Even multiplayer first person shooters makes it great (now you won't need to connect two PS3's together, you can just play with 6 or so people on one console, and using the HDMI ports, you can connect the sole PS3 to two televisions for some multiplayer party action). I was just saying that if the PS3 is indeed marked at $400 or lower (possibility), with all the added built-in features the system has that the X360 doesn't, that would be a pretty good value.
with what sony is offering, there is NO WAY THAT THE SYSTEM WILL BE BELOW 499.

blu ray dvd players by themselves will cost more than $500

You must remember, for most, this isn't aobut price. This is about the fact that they are making 2 systems. $399 is actually a good deal when you break it down, it's now the fact that I'm paying $400 for a system that has a HDD that will NOT be used at it's fullest potential. No developer is going to develop for the HDD, you can't take that chance and cut off a lot of your potential buyers.

Like I said, total mistake, and Sony has just won the next gen console war. Take it for whatever it's worth, but many are going to wait for the PS3 and play wait and see. A lot of sales lost today IMO.

Wow, what the hell are they thinking? $400 is not a bad price for something that powerful but they give in and try to squeeze in a few sales and render the hardrive useless. This is nothing short of a disaster considering how much their fanbase loves the hardrive.

What games now uses the hard drive? Have developers stated they need a hard drive to make a game go on the new gen?

Custom soundtracks can be streamed off of Ipods and other devices including your PC. The Hard Drive isn't needed there. Most patches are for online stuff, and I'd seriously doubt anybody who wants online would buy the Core unit.

MS should just scrap the Core unit imo, the price is fine, it's just the splitting of the userbases that seem to be causing the backlash.

We can use Socom 2 as an example. It CAN distribute gameplay patches to the masses(which is why the file takes 1/3 of the card), but DLC was availible only to hardrive users. It's hard to say what kind of affect it will have on patching, but I assume having a hardrive made it easier.

Exactly! That's my point. $400 isn't bad, it's the split that kills me.

Smaller patches can be saved on a memory card. People are overreacting to this in my opinion. Games can be designed for the HD and non HD 360's. For example, NFL2k5 on the ps2 is designed for both. If you have a HD you can watch replays and Sportscenter highlights, if you dont you cant but you still get still shots of those highlights. If you are willing to spend the 100 bucks extra you get the benefits.

I was pissed when I found out about the different SKU's but when I realized what I was gonna get for the 100 bucks extra I relaxed. I planned on buying a wireless controller, headset, and getting the HD pack anyway and that probably would have cost me over 100 anyway.
