It looks a little iffy, and I've traditional not been a Nintendo guy, but I'll definitely have to give it a try. Too innovative and different not to do such.

Re: Nintendo cements itself as a laughingstock
I love that video and the possibility IGN showed in bryan's post.
Suddenly very interested in the Revolution. Will have one top 'regular' console with either 360 or PS3 then one original, 'different' console hopefully with the Revolution.Comment

Re: Nintendo cements itself as a laughingstock
If I am going to buy this new system, more games better be added (especially sports games). I am fed up with how NCAA Football isn't made for the Cube, and MVP 06 isn't either. Nintendo better get their act together.Comment

Re: Nintendo cements itself as a laughingstock
I'm a huge MLB fan, and this looks friggin' awesome for hitting in a baseball game. I'm just imagining trying to read the pitch and timing your swing of the controller. Swing too early on a breaking pitch, and ground out to the shortshop. Swing too late on a fastball and foul it off. Wait back on a pitch and drive it into the opposite field. Get a hanger and smash it out of the park. The possibilities are endless.Comment

Re: Nintendo cements itself as a laughingstock
Good article that sums up my feelings:
2nd, I am not surprised at the general reaction from this forum. Sports gamers are the ultimate in "give me the same thing, but give it to me better looking/sounding" . I mean, what are sports games other than a roster update and better graphics? That's all they "need" to be, I suppose, but it's funny to hear sports gamers(and I count myself among the group) complain about Nintendo and it's excessive "rehashes".
The 360 and PS3 cater to this exact mentality. Same thing, only better looking/sounding/online. Same controls, too(I mean, how many people wouldn't even TRY 2K Football because the controls were different, even though the controller was the same...this is what Nintendo is up against). Anyone who looks at this controller and says "how can I play Madden with that thing?", has no business in this discussion. The thing isn't made to play Madden, and it shouldn't be.
People crap on Nintendo's systems because they don't have the specs, and all most sports gamers can thing of is how ______ 2007+ sports franchise wont look as good as it does on PS3/360. On the other hand, there are gamers who, if they're immersed and having fun, could give a damn about a teraflop.
One thing that really cracks me up and boggles the mind is the people complaining about how stupid it LOOKS, and how they don't want to look funny/awkward when playing a videogame system.
First, who watches other people playing videogames? Second, you have no problem, say, spending hours setting lineups and sliders, or cursing at the television when you give up a home run or interception, but you think a different controller is what's going to make you look funny to others? Even if it did, who cares? Are you a teenage girl worried about protecting your "image"? I play videogames to have fun, not in a mirror, or in an effort to be an exhibitionist.
You're telling me the Dual Shock, or the original NES controller didn't look damn funny when they were released? You know, if I try a Revolution and the controller is awkward, non-responsive, or just plain BAD, I will be the first to say it. However, you can't judge that from a photo, and the impressions from the gaming journalists are positive. People who say "some things don't NEED to be changed" are the first ones with egg on their faces when something that changes the paradigm comes along.
Who says Nintendo falls on their face time and time again? They're not even TRYING to go after the XBox/PS3 market, and are very upfront in saying so. I'm confident about his new controller. Why? Think about the controllers we use today.....
Shoulder buttons? Nintendo innovation.
Analog Stick? Nintendo innovation.
Rumble/Vibration? Nintendo innovation.I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

It may be responsive, and not plain bad, but sure as hell will be awkward.
Controller still sucks.Comment

I think it's ludicrous to suggest that a controller (which, by its very essence, is intended to control well as opposed to look good on a shelf) can be declared "awkward" without ever HOLDING OR USING it.
But opinions are opinions. Either one of us can be proven wrong, I'm just reserving judgement until I can use the device as it is primarily intended.I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Originally posted by SilverstringI meant awkward in the control sense, not the "look" sense. Once people are used to it, it may feel natural. All new control schemes require a learning curve.

Easy for my son to adjust to a learning curve, not so cool for me, a 34 year old gamer that is in his comfort zone gaming wise. Not being a dick, just being real, from my perspective anyways.
Either way, you youngans' have at it! Sh*t, I'm sure my kid will ask for one too. He has every system known to man as it is now.Comment

I'm guessing the learning curve is not that steep. One of Nintendo's stated goals for this system is to make games that EVERYONE can play, to make games intuitive. I'm sure that the controller is constructed around that purpose.
Hell, I get frustrated "picking up" games like Splinter Cell with the breadth of things you can do, and that's with the SAME controller I'm already "used to"! And I'm only 23, so I don't assume it's a problem with finger agility or reflexes.I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

I love the idea for certain games, now they just have to come out with better games, though i still don't see how it can make a difference for football and basketball games (and maybe it won't).Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.Comment
