Keep the power-brick away from the system. I keep my power brick on the floor (wood-floor) and the system on an entertainment center (well-ventilated) and I haven't had any problems. The system gets warm, but not hot.

Too keep the system as cool as possible, I'm thinking of buying some ice packs and placing them under the system while I play. Do you guys think this will help and is it a good idea?

I don't think that I would do that

I hooked my 360 up in a meat locker, haven't had any issues yet.

I got mine back today from the repair center. At first I thought it was a refurb unit, but I checked the manufacture date, and it is 12-5-05. I doubt it could have been shipped, purchased at retail, sent into the repair center by the buyer, and repaired by them in that short of a time frame, but I suppose there is a slight chance.

Oh well, everything looks brand new, and more importantly it works perfectly so far. I am really impressed with the turnaround time, too, since they only received it from me last Thursday. My new one also came with a hard drive too, so now I have an extra one. May come in handy if I keep downloading demos.

It on the bottom of the console IIRC.

For regular Xbox yes but for 360, the date is on the back of the console, where the usb/fans/ethernet stuff are located.

Yep, back right side of the console, right next to where the usb port is.

The only problem I have with my 360 is that recordable media (DVD+R, DVD/RW, etc.) doesn't play smoothly. I might get 3/4ths into a movie, and have read errors without a message.

                                Otherwise, I'm satisfied.
