Re: Official 360 Problems
Joking aside, this 360 death brings us well past the 50% failure rate for launch units, and that’s based upon a rather sizable pool of consoles at IGN. Microsoft has a problem on their hands whether they’re willing to admit it or not, and I say it’s high time they stop denying the issue and throwing around that 3% figure. Launch 360s don’t live past a year, even under relatively light use, and I’m certain Microsoft is aware of this fact based upon returns.
Microsoft’s replacement process sucks big time, and the fact that you’d have to be crazy not to buy replacement insurance for a new 360 at retail essentially means that the Xbox 360 could be considered just as expensive as the low end PS3, based upon a $399 (console) + $80 (insurance) equation. With failure rates this high, Microsoft is committing a serious disservice to consumers by acting as though it should be de rigeur to buy 3rd party warranties for a product that is well known to be defective.
Seriously, they’re Microsoft; they’ve got plenty of cash, and now that the PS3 is going to be a weak contender this Christmas they’re going to run away with the majority of the console market. Microsoft needs to step up to the plate and launch a recall to show that it really cares about gamers. Otherwise the first couple million fans, the hardcore, are all going to end up with dead 360s and a long term hatred of Mr. Softy.

I do not know which is worse, wondering IF your console will break or WHEN its scheduled time of demise will be! From the sounds of everything its just a matter of time.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: Official 360 Problems
Yeah that does suck. This time last week... I was part of the vast majority that was having an outstanding experience.
Now I am just part of the "very" small fraction that are not satisfied with their Xbox 360 experience. Below is a few lines from an email I received from them after complaining about my experience.
The vast majority of Xbox 360 owners are having an outstanding experience with their new systems. But there have been a few isolated reports of consoles not working as expected. The call rate is well below what you would expect for a consumer electronics product of this complexity. As a percentage of the total number of Xbox 360 systems already in the field, these calls represent a very small fraction.
There is no systemic issue with Xbox 360. Each incident is unique and these customer inquires are being handled on a case-by-case basis. And Customer satisfaction is our highest priority. Anyone who has an issue with their Xbox 360 console should call Xbox Support immediately so that we can help, or visit http://www.xbox.com/support .
Regarding repair, the best way to have complicated matters such as a repairs and warranties resolved is to work directly through phone support. As you indicate in your e-mail, you have already spoken with phone support about your concerns and phone support provided you with all of the options for repairing your Xbox. While we are concerned that you are not satisfied with the results of the conversation, we stand behind what phone support offers to resolve your repair issue.
We do track and report all complaints, and we will note that you are not satisfied with the service offerings we have provided. All feedback is taken into account in determining our service offerings. Should you change your mind and accept the offering provided by phone support, do not hesitate to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX and they work with you to set up a repair and get your Xbox up and running again.Comment

Re: Official 360 Problems
Geez. Mine still works great but I only bought it in April so it may still crap out. I generally don't believe in extended warranties because, over here, on many electronic products such as TVs and stereos the implied warranty exceeds or matches the warranties that are sold, meaning you're paying for nothing. However, I don't think game systems fall into that. So I have a 360 with no warranty past next month (original was extended 3 months as I was told when I called in to get my power supply replaced).
After reading stories of people having to go through repair/replacement more than once, I'm thinking of setting aside about $400 bucks just in case so I can buy a new core system and get a warranty on it. I've also thought of trading in my current system while it still works and getting a new one with an extended warranty but I'm not sure EB would let me as they'd probably be very suspicious of my system given that I would ask to trade it in for the same one.
One thing is for sure, I don't want to pay $139 for repairs and get somebody else's refurb that could crap out on me and cost me another repair.Comment

Re: Official 360 Problems
Yep, my luck is going great lately, turned it on yesterday, dead. It went to the dashboard, locked up. Then I couldn't get it to turn back on, kept getting the 3 red lights. I did that code thing that Backbreaker posted and mine was general hardware failure. I know it didn't overheat, because for one, I just turned it on, for 2 it was sitting in a great ventilated area and never really got hot.
Luckily I got the Gamestop warranty, so I was back playing my 360 an hour later. Not bad. I have a new warranty until September of 07 now.
My launch 360 still works like I got it yesterday, I had 0 problems. OH well, it may or may not happen to me...Only time will tell I guess.N.Y Mets

Re: Official 360 Problems
Yeah, but I'm covered through 2007 now, so it was no big deal to me. It's basically like buying the MS warranty, since the Gamestop one was/is cheaper.Comment
