I know, it was quite insane. I'm glad both games turned out to be worth it though.

Newest rumor, but it seems true Gamestop is negotiating with 2K to sell the game early since the street date has been broken.

for the first time i am starting to get real pissed off at this release date garbage and the gamestop's of the world acting as if they can hold the gaming public hostage simply cause they can

              angry cuban rant on:

the local gs here which i went and reserved the game from has it, but wont sell it cause "it is not supposed to come out until the 21st". well guess what, if i find the game before then someplace it, i am officially boycotting my purchasing from gs for any game, and will make sure i due my part in trying to sway anyone i know to purchase from them.

The publishers are dumb enough trying to hold back releases until some bs arbitrary date, but these yahoos at gs are the absolute worse. "oh they arent supposed to sell it. Give me the location so we can turn them in"

I want to give a big FU to any and all people involved with gamestop. i hope the company goes down in flames and takes everyone within that organization with them.

              angry cuban rant off:

As you can see, i am upset, and i think this was the last straw for me. I am going cold turkey from GS, period. I might even write an article about the stupidity that is the release date for games.

I 110% agree, release dates are a joke, the fact people like me who are willing to drive can get any game early from moms and pops stores means that the big release date set in stone does NOT work. They should just abolish the arbitrary date and just sell it when they get it.

If a GS has the release date hung on them from above, what are they to do? The employee hears horror stories of fines and people getting fired for breaking a release date, of course they aren't going to sell it. I think your anger should be directed at the publisher for putting out an available now commercial a week beforehand. If they did want to go ahead and release the game early, then the pub should make that known to all the retailers.

Hey i've got a question, i've ready a lot about the people and the story, graphics, etc in this game but just to clarify, is this an RPG like a Fallout type thing where you can build and modify your character and really customize them a lot? Or is it more of like an action game where you just go from level to level to get better weapons and read the story and try not to die?

FPS first, but you can customize the powers/weapons. I don't think you really level up rpg style.

It starts at the top, but there is no "law" indicating that it cannot be sold. This whole "we'll get in trouble" is an excuse, nothing more. The publisher sells a set amount to a store. The publisher no longer cares since the items have been paid for by the store who is simply acting a middle man. This firm release date means nothing when the game is sold early anyways. These publishers who want their game out on a certain date do it for nothing more than perhaps accounting reasons. If that is the case, then figure out another way to do it. If a store has it, they should sell it. Not have people show ill-will cause " they cant sell it yet".

So a shop who sells it early will be "punished" and not given games? Does that not sound like a big crock? The publisher will keep from selling more games to teach someone a lesson?

Its a scam. The minute the game is pressed and on those UPS trucks it should be ready for purchase.

EDIT: my apologies for taking this thread of track with my ranting. This should be about bioshock and not Eddie's take on the corporate gaming machine.

Oh I agree it's a big scam, but I always hear the GS employees saying they could get fired or their store could get fined. If I was a GS employee and had that hanging over my head, I wouldn't sell the game early either.

It seems like GS is the only one to get the Collector's Edition. If that is true than they can really get you by the sack.

I think gamers are just psycho crazy people who drive hours to get a game early. You don't see this with DVD sales, people somehow manage to wait patiently until it comes out.

Why don't stores understand a release date? This wouldn't be an issue except that some stores knowingly break street date. Street dates exist because it might take more time to get a game to some stores compared to others via mail. Should Gamestop or a mom&pop be penalized because they got their copies of Madden in on Thursday instead of Wednesday due to UPS?

Also, I shouldn't have to be calling a billion stores around the time a game is supposed to be released, trying to find who's getting shipments when. I chased down NCAA once one year and never again. I just don't understand how these places that break street date don't know what a "Sell on this day" type date is.

Anyways, back on topic, I played the demo last night and thought it was pretty cool/freaky, but I'm gonna pass on buying it for now, probably a rental or buy used later on.
