This article about Resistance (read page 4) gives some pretty solid insight on just how powerful the PS3 is:
This one about Fight Night Round 3 does as well:
Both are fairly new stories...Comment

As far as Resistance: You would expect that hype from a company whos game is being published by Sony. This article about Resistance (read page 4) gives some pretty solid insight on just how powerful the PS3 is:

Both are fairly new stories...
As for FNR3:
IGN: Are the visual improvements specifically thanks to "The power of PS3" or is it simply because the developers had more time to work on next-gen hardware?
b>"The answer is both. More time allows us to think about how to do things in different ways. At the same time, the PS3 is a powerful system and there are things we can do on this system that are unique. Each system has its advantages but both systems are really powerful tools that help us to make the great games we want to make."
Mainly the facial expression due to FP mode.
Nothing more than more Emotion Chip hype, IMO.
Again IMO.

I agree. And besides, that's IGN reporting this. I'd rather a reputable gaming outlet [gamespot] give us the low down.As far as Resistance: You would expect that hype from a company whos game is being published by Sony.

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
Just wondering when we should expect some official marketing for the PS3... be it preorder info, a final list of launch games, and some bundles and pricing to start appearing online. We're almost two months out, right? I'm at my wits end trying not to buy a 360 since I can't justify both, so I'm getting a little antsy!!Comment

PS3 Backwards Compatibility not so backwards?
http://ps3.net/newsboard/view.php?id=440
By Jason Bayer on Sep 4, 2006
It seems as though Sony is telling the bad news through their website, other than making it official, because most of the bad news of these past weeks have come from their website and the fine print at the bottom.
Now onto the bad news. Remember at E3 2006 and Kaz hirai was interviewed and said that all PS1 and PS2 games will be fully backwards compatible with the PS3, as well as with CD's, DVD's, and Blu-Ray Discs. Well that's not the case anymore. According to their website under "About" tag with the 13 questions.
When asked "Can I still play my PS2 games, etc... on PS3?", and it gives the answer and then at the bottom in fine print it says this, and I quote:
"* Some PlayStation 2 or PlayStation format software titles may perform differently on this system than they do on PlayStation 2 or PlayStation systems, or may not perform properly on this system. In rare instances, CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and other media may not operate properly on the PS3 system. This is primarily due to variations in the manufacturing process or encoding of the software.*"
This can only mean one thing, either the Blu-Ray disc drive in the PS3 isn't functioning the way Sony had imagined it, or they are having the same troubles as Microsoft is with making Xbox games work on Xbox 360, with the encoding of them. It can also mean that when these systems being manufacturing, if it already hasn't, that maybe about 1 out of every 5 systems may not function the way they are supposed to, which could be because of the Blu-Ray diodes or the yeilds in the cell processor. Anyway you look at it, Sony has a lot of explaning to do come TGS and come before their launch, to prove to the gaming industry that the PS3 is not a system failure.
This is why i don't get rid of ANY of my old systems unless they are broken beyond home repairhttp://www.myspace.com/phillthegenesis

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
Sounds good, thanks Rodster. I'll be excited to start seeing it in print and feel like it's actually going to drop in November... I'll have to head down to my EB in a few weeks... I remember being about the 12th person to sign a list entitled "Call me when PS3 is ready for preorder."
It'd also be nice to hear some positive PR about the launch since I've never been in a position to buy a next gen console this early on. Seeing as how everything you read is negative, it certainly doesn't help the perception that spending all this money for a launch console could backfire...especially with how advanced the technology is now. Hopefully the anticipation of getting one and an extended warranty will ease my concern...Comment

Re: PS3 Backwards Compatibility not so backwards?
They're just covering their rears in case some games don't work. There are a handful of PSOne titles that do not work on the PS2. Strangely, some titles don't work on some PS2's but work on others. I know some people at launch couldn't play Final Fantasy Anthology on their PS2's but I always could. I know there were a few other games but it was so long ago I honestly can't remember any of them. If memory does serve me right, they were mostly older PSOne titles that really had little success at retail. The Final Fantasy ones were the only big name games that stood out and the problem supposedly had to do with the emulation software used in the games (they were ports of SNES titles).http://ps3.net/newsboard/view.php?id=440

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
PS3 delayed until March 07 in Europe.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that it would revise the launch date of its PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system in the PAL territories of Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Australasia from 17th November 2006, as previously announced to March 2007.
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/...layStation.phpBut far fewer machines will be available for the launch dates in Japan and the U.S. because of the production problem, Kutaragi said.
In the U.S., about 400,000 PlayStation 3 machines will be available when they go on sale Nov. 17. About 100,000 will be available on the Nov. 11 Japan launch date.
