Yeah there are PLENTY of great games to get a 360 for. Maybe he was being sarcastic though.

No, I was not being sarcastic. Of the games listed above, NBA 2K7, Gears, and F.E.A.R. are the only games that even approach being next gen titles, and you can get F.E.A.R. on the medium on which it was meant to be played (not the 360). Madden? Ghost Town GRAW? Fight Night????? All are "generation 1.5" titles, and don't merit a $400+ purchase. I've played many a 360 game, and a high percentage of them are EXTREMELY underwhelming.

As some one who started on a 2600 and has been blown away by each successive console launch (yes, that Sega Master System looked freaking incredible in its day when you first turned it on) . . . this is the very first console generation where the "blow away" factor is non-existant. The 360 depresses me, the PS3 doesn't excite me yet, and the Wii is a gimmick box with no HD graphics. This is one of the worst times to be a gamer in a long time, and I'm not even getting into the poor quality of the new releases and the conglomeration / exclusivity trend . . .

The moral? Life sux for jaded gamers, lol. Just stop playing games for..meh...3 years or so. When you come back, the industry may have caught up to your expectations. Or not. J/K. Honestly though, I think this current gen could have went another 2 good years. Part of the problem is that MS pulled the trigger a little too early for next-gen to really blow out the last. Then again, dev costs are already astronomical...who knows what games would cost to make with even more advanced future technology.

Also, it's interesting that you name NBA 2k as being "next-gen" while it's prolly the least advanced next gen game so far. It's almost identical to the current version with a minor facelift and slightly smoother control. So what do you define as next gen?

The bottom line though...next Gen's better games have been fantastic, and once there are enough of those good titles to allow you to ignore the mediocre ones (like current gen which sees completely CRAP games released weekly...you just don't notice them among the thousands of titles you see when you swing by the neghborhood EB) your issues will be resolved, I think...

Actually, I was talking more about 2K7's controls - I just love how the game FEELS on the 360 . . . something revolutionary about it.

And don't worry, I'm quite impressed by the PSP, so I'll keep my PS2 (or XBOX) focus on the incredible PSP for a while, and hopefully the next-gen will start delivering on its many false promises (and cut the prices), motivating me to finally make a purchase. Should I buy a game console because it plays HD movies? Sadly, that might be the determining factor this time around, that and NFL 2K5! It just shouldn't come down to that!!

Tekken: DS, MLB: The Show, and Field Commander are all pretty impressive. Smackdown, GTA, and Vitua Tennis are also pretty good. I haven't played them but Syphon Filter and Daxter have gotten great reviews. Def Jam is also right around the corner. The PSP is a nice little machine.

Dondadda, it seems to me that you are confusing us with your disappointment in games, not consoles. If the Wii is a 'gimmick box with no HD' and the 360 and PS3 (with HD) 'depresses' you then it has to be the games and not the consoles themselves. Especially so since the PS3 isn't even out yet.

If this is true, then I'm with you on that since I'm from the old school days of the 2600. The thing is, with me, what draws me to buy any new console is the release of a good football game and an excellent racer. That usually sets the foundation for any other games.

I'd consider the PS3 if were in the price range and if it had the football and racing title I was interested in. Therefore, since Gran Turismo got old 2 years ago, Madden and Forza 2 takes the cake.

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II

Well, I'm down on the Wii and the PS3 for different reasons.

The Wii appears (and obviously we cannot know until it is released) to be an amazingly dissapointing console - not even and HD graphics and a "revolutionary" control scheme that has already been implemented dozens of times in gaming history across many different genres. With it's probable shallow games lineup and misguided focus, the Wii is a likely big miss from a company that hasn't "hit" in about 14 years in terms of releasing a high-quality console.

And yes, the PS3 does not impress me because there aren't enough games that blow me away, based on the previews. With a price tag that high, the majority these games MUST be jaw-dropping in order to merit the price tag and the "next gen" label. I'm not even close to being "jaw-dropped" yet by the Ps3.

As for the 360, I am dissapointed in both its hardware and games selection. Many of the games on the 360 are minor upgrades from what could have been accomplished on the XBOX console. I'm amazed at how many underachieving titles are out there. "$400 for . . . THIS???" is what I think when I play many 360 games. The ones that have great potential, like GRAW, appear unfinished . . . as if they were "almost there" but released it too early. The 360 hardware is loud and unreliable. M$ charges you to play online when Nintendo and Sony won't. And what the heck is the deal with not having a wireless adapter inside the 360? Not that this is a huge deal, but it shows me that M$ isn't dedicated to their consumers as much as they pretend to be. Oh, and ahemmm . . .there's the whole backward compatibility fiasco . . .something that if they did right, would have driven me to already purchase this console, even in the face of the above-mentioned warts.

And then, of course, a common theme among all 3 next-gen consoles is the sad state of sports gaming, overall, espcially the football situation.

As for the PSP, I am just stunned at the high quality of games out on that console, and what can be achieved on it. That thing is amazing. Even a launch title like Ridge Racer is impressive. Syphon Filter is shocking, at how good it is, and I'm just never let down by how much GTA can pack onto a small disc. The endless entertainment you can draw from it, based on the use of the memory stick and various hacks, just makes it even better. Right now, the PSP is more "next-gen" than the above-mentioned consoles, in my mind, because it is actually blazing new ground and, in fact, "dropping my jaw," a standard that I applied to, and was met by, the Sega Master System, NES, Genesis, PS1, N64 (although the games fell far short), DC, PS2, and XBOX.

Well, I'm hoping that one of the 3 home console makers can turn my cynicism around.

maybe because the system gives off to much heat as it is, thus may cause breakdowns and overheating..So they figured they make more vents to ease gamers mind, anywho, good luck if thats true, and goodluck with a sony warranty, because after one year, there is none, SO buy the store warranty my freinds.

No fn way. The PSP has limitless potential. The PSP is the kind of console that actually realized a major leap from other consoles in its genre. I think the some of the games for it are outstanding, and the ability to play a lot of them online is tremendous. I like the tweaks that Sony has made to its OS, too. Good job, the PSP is now very viable and high quality.

not terrible but... RSX is now rumored to be released downgraded at 500/650 rather than 550/700.

Xboxdestroyer over at Beyond3D has confirmed that rumours have been floating from a couple of reliable sources (not the Inq).... but nothing has yet been confirmed.
