Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
Because they are going in a direction that makes the PS brand an entertainment machine. The PS brand must therefor carry on the media brand. If it was just a gaming machine it would be no big deal. However, as these machines become an entertainment centerpiece it becomes difficult to introduce a brand new media and then take it away five years later. The public isn't going to take kindly to a short lived format (thus why the new formats will have some difficulty getting off the ground). Joe Shmoe who builds up his BR collection isn't going to be keen on buying a new machine that wont play his discs.Originally posted by Ice Cream TruckDON'T PANIC -
Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
Joe Shmoe will already have a BluRay player then.
I kinda understand what you guys are getting at. Mmmm... Just because it's said that BluRay may not be on PS4 does not mean it will be a short lived format.
BluRay will not need PS support 5 years from now. Everyone that wants a BluRay player will already have it by then (factor in all the people that'll end up with a new PS and/or standalone player)!
There is noooooooooo reason to put a BluRay player on PS4 when no one will need it???
Another thing about you guys' logic that baffles me is the fact that you won't buy a PS3 because PS4 will not have BluRay??? But if you have PS3, then you will already have BluRay......... Why do you want 2 low-end Bluray players? Just because another console comes out doesn't mean your currentgen console just disappears.
Oh yeah, but enough of this talk. Sony is just talking out their *** now. PS4 needs to be backwards compatible. It's funny how someone will believe something they say about a console that they haven't even started on yet, but not believe what they say about a console that comes out in a few months.Xbox 360 GamertagRAW 910

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
Sony keeps on digging itself deeper and deeper with the comments that are comming out of Phil's mouth in the public eye. They haven't released the PS3 yet, and their already talking about the PS4. How do they know if the PS3 won't hurt them, which could mean no PS4 possibly. It may sway a few people when they hear something like this, but there are people that will still buy this piece of hardware no matter what.Originally posted by Ice Cream TruckJoe Shmoe will already have a BluRay player then.

All this speculation is crazy, and until the PS4 news start coming towards the end of the PS3 life cycle than we can worry about it.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
You guys are jumping all over comments made off the cuff like Sony's world is ending. MS said the same stuff when the Xbox launched, started talking about the next system. I'm sure Sony and MS already have divisions working on their next piece of hardware. It's the way the industry works now.Comment

When PS2 launched they already started talking about PS3, this is nothing new, and it's not going to hurt them. People make way too much out of nothing.Comment

And they were running ads for PS9, I can't wait for that one! It didn't have a Blu Ray, or even an HDD!Comment

"DVD battle will end in stalemate"
Users will stay away in droves
By Nick Farrell: Friday 11 August 2006, 09:11
ANY FORMAT war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will end in a draw, according to a report prepared by Screen Digest.
Screen Digest analyst Graham Sharpless, who penned the report said that the two formats will only net $11 billion of the total $39 billion expected to be spent on video discs by 2010 in the United States, Europe and Japan.
He said that the format war and the publicity it has generated has killed off consumer appetite. Sharpless said that unlike the way DVD bumped off VHS buy providing a universal format in a more convenient way to own movies, this time both formats had similar features.
Unfortunately people are starting to lose interest in DVDs because punters had built up libraries of their favourite movies and TV shows.
Screen Digest thinks that that the two formats will co-exist until a combined disk becomes cost-effective. Sharpless doubts that a side will emerge victorious or that both will flop so badly that the format will to be driven into extinction."Comment

It'll probably start right when TGS is over which is September 22-24.
Yeah, he should announce it during or at the end of TGS. I feel pretty sure about that.Xbox 360 GamertagRAW 910
