Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
we'll see
XBdestroyer runs a PS site and is the technical hardware info guy and he usually knows what he's talking about.
if you read what I linked to you will see that the 50mhz downgrade is not that big of a deal anyway. This info also explains why clock numbers have been absent from every spec release from sony since E3 '05.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
50 mhz is a big deal because developers are targeting specs that are stationary not constant moving targets. If I were making a game that had certain specs and the game ran pretty smooth only to find out later in the games development that I just lost processing power my game may not run as smooth as I thought it would. So now I have to go back and see what I can cut to make it work better.we'll see

If I were a developer I would not be to happy to hear that. Klocker there are several other sites that are picking up on this story as well so it appears to have some legs.Comment

oh yea the memory clock speed also has gone down from 700 to 650
this comes from xbdestroya, moderator at e-mpire PS3 forum, generally honest and knowledgeable guy who conducts interviews with PS3 developers etc. In other words, I believe he wouldn't write this if devs didn't tell him it's true.

I don't expect a big performance decline due to this myself, and I'm sure you'll hear many a dev back me up on that point. PS3 = Cell well before it equals RSX, and indeed, I have a pretty monster Cell interview coming up in the next 24 hours.
PS - Incidently, I don't think RSX was downgraded because Sony couldn't reach the speeds onsistently, I think it was downgraded because to get from 500MHz to 550MHz would have required a voltage bump that wasn't worth the added wattage and thermal constraints to the system.
</td> </tr> </tbody></table>

I will say this: you will not hear any PS3 devs posting that this news is false. Take that for what it's worth...
Please no one PM me about this either, I get enough PMs on a daily basis as it is. Frankkly, it came out at a bad time, but really, really, this is not a big deal. I can't emphasize enough how small this downgrade is in the larger context of things.
</td> </tr> </tbody></table>
I don't know if the devkits that are in devs hands now are the final-final, but apparently the RSX that's in them is clocked at 500MHz (instead of 550). DDR memory attached to it is also apparently clocked at 650Mhz (instead of 700MHz announced long time ago)
On one hand this is allegedly faster than the RSX used in previous devkits (that one AFAIK was 450Mhz), on the other hand if they don't change it for the production model, it's less than announced a year ago.
Cell still remains at 3.2GHz according to him.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
Well this is the ps3 thread and there's nothing else about the ps3 to talk about so it shouldn't be surprising.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

yes thanks... it is the PS3 hardware thread...
also, if you read the links provided I believe you will find that right now...this is not a rumor but true.Last edited by Klocker; 08-28-2006, 09:13 PM.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
OK.
I think I'll just start a word document and save all these rumors and everything until TGS.
I don't see where this has been confirmed. No name sites are always pulling stuff out of their asses, just skim through this whole thread.Xbox 360 GamertagRAW 910

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
XBDestroya is a mod at the PS site and a PlayStation tech writer (in fact he has an in depth Cell interview coming up on the e-Empire site tomorrow morning -check it out).
He is very reliable and has stated several times in that thread that this is indeed true and he has known about it for a few weeks and only decided to go public because he is not under NDA and the rumors were flying so he decided to set it straight.
He also posts over at Beyond 3D and is very well respected.
but... believe what you want... or not.Comment

Why are you getting angry? It's just rumors about a game system.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
not terrible but... RSX is now rumored to be released downgraded at 500/650 rather than 550/700.
Xboxdestroyer over at Beyond3D has confirmed that rumours have been floating from a couple of reliable sources (not the Inq).... but nothing has yet been confirmed.

I heard this same thing from my buddy who works in the gaming industry in Italy. The exact same thing. I'll give you his ICQ # is you would rather ask him yourselfComment
