Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
All you need to look at is Take-Two and EA, Next Gen is not getting much better.
The one company that pushes the envelop has been Ubisoft, I would think either Microsoft or EA will try to buy them out before they start growing exponentially."Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for)Comment

First party titles/exclusive should start to push the system. Ultimately that should force an improvement from other developers. It's fair to say the 360's initial first party offerings, whilst technically impressive, were a little rushed. Expect the next wave - think Too Human, Crackdown, Mass Effect - to really impress.
Also the PS2 and Xbox markets are still huge, hence we're seeing some fairly average games ported up.
PS3 is still an unknown. I personally doubt it'll launch with games that can compare to the 360 at the end of 06 BUT the launch titles will impress and for launch titles, that's enough.
As for E3... We'll all know in a few short weeks.Comment

You have to remember Sony gave developers a much more mature platform from day one. They provided developers with Nvidia 6800U (SM 3.0) SLi graphic solutions and 2.4GHz Cell's 18 months prior to launch. While this wasn't final hardware, developers were working with Cell from day one (underclocked), and a graphics solution that is much closer to their final GPU (RSX), than what Microsoft offered.
Microsoft gave developers dual-CPU Apple Power Mac G5 systems with ATI 9800 Pro's (SM 2.0) from day one (January 2004). link
Later they updated the kits with an X800XT (SM 2.0). It wasn't until June 2005 when first party developers got to work with Xenon (CPU) and Xenos (GPU SM 3.0). Final kits didn't arrive until late August/early September, depending on, if your game was a launch title or not.
Because of this, PS3 launch titles will be significantly more mature than the 360 launch titles.Last edited by Flawless; 04-21-2006, 02:57 PM.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Originally posted by RodsterThey won't sell cause the French Government would stop it. They stopped the so called hostile takeover attempt by EA, although EA never called it that, just another investment.

Originally posted by USF11If EA didnt have such a horrible year last year they would own Ubisoft right now. Don't think for one second any company is not on the block.
The Gov't made it very clear. Ubisoft will stay in France and will be owned by the French. That's why EA backed out, cause they weren't going to get them.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
Originally posted by RodsterTrue but what got the French Govt involved was that EA wanted to control more than 51% of the company which in essence means they are owned by EA. The Govt stopped EA from buying a controlling stake in the company.
As it stands now EA is just an investor in Ubisoft.
With that said give it time and someone will come in with an offer Ubisoft can't refuse.
If I was going to invest money over the next 10 years in any video game company it would be Ubisoft. Take-Two would be a complete mess right now if Elder Scrolls didnt come out. EA is just so huge right now there isnt alot of potential for growth. Midway hasn't had a good game in about 5 years.
The console wars are about huge money, and just how big a blow it would to the other company if Microsoft could acquire Ubisoft. Microsoft is gonna have alot of money to burn once Vista Comes out."Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for)Comment

The government can intervene with the market be it open or not. All transactions where someone assumes control of a company has to be approved by stockholders and the government. If someone like EA were to try and become the majority holder in a company like Ubisoft and the government felt that this would give them too much control over the videogame industry they could choose to not approve the sale.Comment
