I knew I shouldn't have responded too you of all people, If I or someone says the PS3 is black, you will come in and say its white. You're preaching to the choir, I'm well aware of Web Tv. I'm not touting it like its the be all, end all. What I posted was about YDL v5.0. The internet thing is just gravy.Comment

The Web browser now would be the ultimate topping if you could download MP3's or roster files directly from sites like OS. I know they've already said it's a no no, bt that would be cool.Comment

I'm a betting man and I say Vista and will blur the lines in how the 360 and PC communicate when playing PC or 360 games.
Here's a cool idea. It would be really cool to have my PC (Vista) connected to my 360. While I'm playing PGR4 I'll use my PC as the rear view mirror while playing PGR4 now that would be cool. Wait a minute you guys are doing that with GT4 and the PSP, damn.Comment

That would be sweet. Maybe they can add it in later on? Hopefully, because that would make the browser thing that much better.Comment

Some interesting facts about the PS3
Posted Nov 5th 2006 1:11PM by Ryan Block
Even though we're basically on the eve of Sony's big launch of the PlayStation 3, we still had a few outstanding questions about some of the minutiae of the console. Yeah, we're dorky sticklers for detail like that. So here are a few interesting facts about the PlayStation 3 you may (or may not) be interested in knowing:
*After plenty of gameplay the console is cool -- or at worst warm -- to the touch on every surface. In a side by side test with the Xbox 360, the console is comparably virtually silent, and the Blu-ray drive is significantly quieter than the 360's DVD drive.
*USB keyboards and mice will be plug-n-play, no fuss at all. Who really wants to browse the web with a PlayStation controller anyway?
*Bluetooth mice and keyboards will not work with the system at launch.
*Any (A2DP) Bluetooth headset should theoretically work with the system, though Sony will have a recommended hardware list.
*The EyeToy is the only USB webcam that will work with the system. The original PS2 EyeToy should still work with the PS3.
*There are currently no plans for VGA out on the PlayStation3.
*The system will not support more than seven controllers.
*There are currently no plans for a cheaper, wired version of the SIXAXIS.
*With its media playback software one can have in-game custom soundtracks, as with the Xbox 360, Wii, etc.
*Despite rumor, Sony insists the US is still officially targeted for a 400k unit launch; Japan is still set for a mere 80k. Sony execs are actually expecting an upturn in unit production before launch, so those numbers may actually go up.
*Some titles have an option to install some amount of game data (in addition to saved data) to the drive. Genji can install 4GB worth of data to decrease load times (quoted to drop from 12-15 seconds down to 3-4); this game data can be removed at any time without affecting your saved games.
*The drive can be upgraded, although not on any official basis (read: YMMV, do so at your own risk, you may void warranty, etc.).
*You cannot leave voice or picture messages for other users on the PlayStation Network, only text.

The PS3 will upscale DVDs.
[Link]
So, they have to make the games specifically. Otherwise, you can upscale. But that's actually another question I have. So, there's no 1080p upscaling for DVDs, PlayStation 1, or PlayStation 2 games. Is there any particular reason why?
I don't know, to be honest. I don't know the answer that much.
Because, that's something that actually kind of turned some heads is when Microsoft announced 1080p support. They also announced that they were going to be adding DVD playback upscaling to 1080p, which is kind of something that is more or less unheard of in the consumer DVD playback market.
Right, so I guess from a Blu-ray perspective, Blu-ray movies are obviously 1080p capable; the Blu-ray player will upscale DVDs -- your question's about why not PS1 and PS2 games?
So you're saying the PlayStation 3 will upscale DVDs to 1080p?
Yes. Oh, yes.
Okay.
That's part and parcel of the Blu-ray technology. I thought you were questioning about the PlayStation game aspect.
Yeah, this is also about PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 games that are going to be played on the console.
Yeah, I don't know the answer to that, as I said. I thought that's what you're asking. Blu-ray does upscale the DVD movie experience. I'd have to check on the PlayStation -- we can get back to you on that.

Here's the fallout from the rumored PS3 theft. A guy, who turned out to be a game developer, supposedly "stole" a PS3 and posted pics on the net.
Interesting comments if true:
We might as well let the cat outta the bag..
Haniballs (the guy with the non-test marked PS3) is a game developer with 15 years in the business. He received two PS3 units, one for work and one to take home since he lives in Norcal and kinda far away from the game studios.
He also received another box that looks like the PS3 that holds an alternate C7 (cell7 core overclocked instruction set) which is the 2nd version of the cell processor that will ship from Sony in PS3's much (much) later in 2007.
Apparently sony has a high failure rate of first run cell processors (to get a good one for shipping) and the version one processor that will ship right away (normal) is in box one... then they are going to an overclocked version a few months from now.. but Haniballs has that processor (alone) in another white looking box, to test on it he just runs 3 ribbon cables over to the new processor housing (which runs so hot the box is 2 times the size as the PS3 itself).
In addition to running faster.. the second gen processor console will have a flash type capability that will allow you to re-flash your PS3's firmware to also play HD-DVD (as well as blue ray) but also most future formats (via re-flash)... the gen one console will be blue ray only and fixed rom. The to be released 4th quarter PS3 also has bluetooth built in.
also the photos dont show it (old controllers)... but haniballs also got 2 of the new controllers... which despite the rumors and pics floating around are in fact different.
the new PS3 controllers have that new HP laptop like "black piano" glossy surface on them. like ipods... they are glossy and also have the vibration feature enabled and of course have the gyros in them for Wii like gaming.
The new controllers match the PS3 console perfectly.
I'm not sure if the new online gaming screenshots were posted, but that's the big surprise that's going to be announced. There WILL be a full featured online gaming community right out of the gate which version 1.01a software will be included on the PS3 hard drive. It's called the PS3 "light brite" bridge.... yes.. like the old school "lite brite" game from the 80's.. hahaha.. anyway, it will include downloadable game demos, etc.. an Xbox 360 online rip off.. but also include an itunes like online store that will allow you to buy songs and download them to sony memory stick only. Four sony media players are supported including that new player / wifi skype phone sony just released.. forgot the name.
Anyway.. I also received one of the PS3 final firmware machines for doing some audio work since I've been working for Sony (music division) for almost 20 years now. I didn't have to sign an NDA to get my PS3 either. I'm not really a gamer and though I create loops I was not planning on getting involved with stuff on the PS3 so I was just going to throw my PS3 on ebay... unless someone wants to give me $3500 today for it.... its unopened in a new box.

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
I think that would be huge news if the PS3 had rumble in the controllers, something tells me that article is wrong. Especially since the sites with PS3's so far, have all said there is no rumble.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
If Rumble were in I would keep my launch PS3 but I think that article is off base. I did read somewhere and can't remember now that there may be a way to connect a PS2 controller to the PS3. If I could do that it would solve my that problem.Comment

I still think you should sell your system, you're only going to get a chance to sell it for 2K once, and you'll get your money back, plus money to buy another in the spring, plus even more money to just hold on to.Comment

It would be awful nice if the game companies or console makers would allow us to transfer game saves over the online service - either cheats, rosters, etc. This would be great and we wouldn't need to buy roster programs.Comment
