Re: Blazing Angels 360 TeamXbox review

Ok, a WWII air combat game was just too much for me to pass on; so I went down to my gamecrazy @ 10:00 to pick it up, and I stayed there and played the game for 2 1/2 hours.

The game plays a lot better than the demo, and on my HD setup after awhile the graphics didn't bother me. And in some cases the background graphics are quite nice.

The Dunkerque mission on the game and the one in the Demo are not the same, so you get a bit more in the full version.

I know a lot of people complain about the lack of a cockpit view and the controls; I originally held these reservations however I got used to it pretty quickly.

In some missions especially the Pearl Harbor mission "Day of Infamy" are very intense. Getting off the ground was difficult b/c there were bombs dropping all over the place. The reviewers and some people might feel it gets repetitive, but I don't see how the gameplay differs from Crimson Skies, Ace Combat, Secret Weapons and Heroes of the Pacific; so if you liked those games I don't see why you wouldn't like this.

I haven't taken it on live yet as I'll probably have to play the single player modes to unlock all the planes I had unlocked while I was still at gamecrazy. Overall, while I feel this game might have been overhyped and the demo was a bit dissappointing I'm really enjoying the full retail version of the game.

Just flying around while seeing dozens of planes in the sky, tracers everywhere, explosions and bigger explosions is just amazing. I had my doubts about this game but after playing it for awhile those doubts have been erased.

Thanks for the impressions, TW. I played the demo today and I can see where, like HoP and SWoN, this game could get repetitive. That was one of my fears before the reviews started pouring in.

Like you, I love WWII flying games, but I think I'll pass onthis one. For one thing, the voices of your squad mates drove me insane.

I may be one of the few people that actually likes the graphics. Very unique to me. I was got frustrated because I want to be able to move the camera around to see my plane, but I couldn't figure out how to do that.

Please keep impressions coming as you continue to advance in the game. I am still curious about it.

      Thanks!

I can see why a lot of people would want to skip this based on the demo, However, the live modes alone are worth it. I had gotten a chance earlier to play some of the live levels and it turns out you don'thave to unlock planes in the SPG to play on live, which is a nice touch if you want to go on live straight away.

The voice acting is bad, but when times get intense (London/Pearl Harbor... which is more intense than the London level x3; you barely tend to notice.) As for the game being repetitive, you could say the same about a lot of FPS but its the experience that counts the most. As a lot of FPS have similiar objectives such as:

        1. Find and rescue N
        2. Find and eliminate N
        3. Reach X
        4. Find the X and destroy them
        5. Protect X or N from enemy attack for x amount of minutes

A lot of FPS have storylines that always include missions with these objectives; yet a lot of them stand apart from each other. Overall, I like the game and playing on live is amazing, the Kamikaze mode on live was enough for me to get the game.

If anyone has any questions I'll make time to answer them.

            thanks!
            ease of finding a game?

I found games pretty easily, there are multiple game modes and finding opponets wasn't difficult.

            strategy level?

You have to work with your squadmates online, since its hard to complete the game when everyone is working by themselves. This is especially true when doing levels that require a large amount of targets to be destroyed in a short amount of time. Plus you have to heal each other occasionally.

            communication level with other players?

Like most games where you have to work together communication is vital; if nobody talks to each other the game goes down in quality. In some of the matches I was in nobody was talking to each other, but when we were talking and working together it was a blast.

excitement and intensity of the online matches?

It's a blast; esp playing dogfight or kamikaze mode.

room set up ease of use and features?

Setting up the game and options online are pretty easy and straightforward; no hassle involved at all.

              TexanWolverine, thanks!

My only interest in the game is the online portion and my only hesitance is the quantity/quality of LIVE players. So far I'm really liking what I'm hearing and what I was hoping for.

Tell me please, do the dogfights feel tense and are they challenging and prolonged or is it a frag fest?

Does the new camera system work as intended? I'm thinking I would like the follow camera as I actually despise the arrow on the screen pointing in the direction of an enemy. You spend half of the battle chasing an imaginary enemy and following an arrow around.

Does it feel like you're fighting other planes rather than distant "brackets"? (as one review stated)

sorry for all the questions, if Hollywood had it in stock today I would have rented it.

I like the dogfights on live, sometimes it can turn into an "outmanuever fest" where everyone is trying to out turn everyone else, but thats where skill comes in.

I also like the tracking camera system, since you are able to do that while flying I wasn't too upset about the lack of a cockpit view.

On live I never felt that I was fighting brackets.

                EDIT:

After playing more of the single player I can say the demo does not do this game justice; some of the later missions are outright challenging. Also, in some of the missions the scenery is outright gorgeous! Especially the sunset of the sky with a wild dogfight going on.

I'm glad I took a chance on this game, I'm having a blast.

I'm wondering if anyone else here has picked this up; since the demo the momentum on this game seems to have shifted which is a shame.

I uppsed my resolution from 720 to 1080 and wow what a difference that made regarding the graphics; I originally had slammed the game on the textures, but on 1080 it looks great all around.

The gameplay on live is absolutely solid, and the different modes rule out the repetitiveness people might worry about.

If anyone else on OS bought it, or rented it send me a FR.

I've put some time into the single player and played a little bit of the multiplayer. I can easily say this game is very solid and one of the best 360 games to date. I'm biased as I love airplane fighting games, adding the beautiful graphics as well as the tight controls (I love 'em), I'm very happy with the game.

Send me a FR EG. Texan, we'll try to get some games in later for sure. This game is very deep online with enough modes to keep you busy for ages. I played coop with 3 other guys just jumping on a random server and it had the missions from the game in there. I wouldn't pay much attention to the reviews, this is a very solid game. At least rent it. In this case IMO, the hype was justified.

Even without a cockpit view, you get used too it. the game looks mghty pretty and playing it from behind the plane view, you see a lot of the great visuals.

After playing this one online for 3 hours or so this morning, pay no attention to the reviews and pay no attention to the demo. The demo doesn't do it much justice. As much as I love GRAW, this is the best online game I've played yet on the 360. Me and Texan were in an 8 player dogfight (Texan is excellent BTW and saved my rear more times than I care to mention) and it was really loads of fun. I'm not very good at flying but I did all right. If you're on the fence on this one, get off the fence and go to a gamestore and pick it up or at the very least rent it. I can't speak for the singleplayer as I only did the training mission, but the multiplayer is top notch.
