It really is worth it to me simply for the Live play, but the single player is impressive as well. I think the reviews from IGN and Gamespot have scared folks off from a really great next gen game. The graphics are impressive considering the fact that you can have 30-40 planes in the air at once on the single player and 16 in the air on multiplayer. The plane models are excellent, the environments (Berlin, Paris, London, Guadalcanal, Africa, Midway, and Pearl Harbor) all look lifelike and their is nothing quite like diving under the Eiffel Tower to get away from someone shooting at you. I haven't picked up Oblivion, College Hoops, or GRAW since I got this game. We really need to create an OS squadron for this game.

The cheaters have sort of gotten to it now. Instead of being shot down, folks are crashing into the ground when they're almost dead to keep you from getting a kill. Some dude did it to Texan online five or six times. A crash every now and again is understandable, it happens to all of us, but some folks just crash on purpose. If you're not sure whether to pick it up, rent it and jump online and your decision will be made.

        yea

if you have damaged someone with fire and then they crash, you should ABSOLUTELY get credit for a kill. That's an oversight IMO.

The other thing I'm surprised about is no indicator of who is speaking (in lobby or more importantly in the game).

I like it but the lack of assist stats and the crash dealy is tempering my affeciton for the online.

closed room with a buncha OS'ers, good fun... open game? Hit or miss.

I posted about the crashing on Ubi's forums as well as the indicator issue. We'll see if we get a response on it.

Could someone who has it please answer this question for me?

I'd like to know if in single player campaign if you can choose your side (like American, Japanese, etc) and then take your pilot through various battles while earning accolades, medals, etc and it shows how many kills you got and so on and so forth?

My favorite game of all time is Battle of Britain and it had a campaign mode like this that I really loved but most games today just have you bouncing around from campaign to campaign for "variety"..

Nope you only play as an american pilot, but you start at one of the first air battles of the war and work your way thru the major ones. You can earn medals and accolades depending on how you do in the Single player.

Ok thanks, does it show the amount of kills you've gotten?

Yes sorry forgot that. In the post mission screen it shows the number of planes shot down. I'm just not sure if it shows your stats or the squadron's stats.

One the player status screen, and at the end of the campaign it shows your total and overall stats.

                              Texan, dave, and whoever else...

what's the best way to build up your planes and unlock the more advanced ones? do the campaign? the standalone modes? the arcade modes? It's obvious you can't do that well online with just a stock plane. Thanks for the help.

I believe you have to build them up thru the campaign. I haven't built mine up as of yet.
