    Sports game: NFL GameDay '98
Non-Sports game: Can't even remember, but it goes back to the NES days with Mario, Donkey Kong, Mega Man, Castlevania, Contra and others.

Goldeneye was the first game that turned me into a diehard multiplayer gamer.

Rethinking this... I tend to go through phases where I zone in on games and then zonk out. Super Mario Bros. was the first game that got me hooked, World Series Baseball '95 got me rehooked about 6 years later, then Super Mario 64, then Madden 2003, and right now I'm thinking Oblivion might do it again since I had kind of lost some interest in games for a while as Madden declined as a franchise. Time will tell though... other honorable mentions along the way were World Cup, NHL 96, Perfect Dark, Super Smash Bros. Melee and World Series Baseball 2k3.

I was a casual gamer pretty much through the 90's. Then, WCW/NWO Revenge for the Nintendo 64 hit. I was a huge WCW fan. My girlfriend/future wife bought me the system and game for my birthday. My older brother, and my best friend, would play that game for hours...daily. Since then, it's been all downhill.

Those N64 WCW games were the ****, man. I would play them religiously. I would make up a scenario where Sting held every title imaginable.

Re: Which game turned you into a diehard gamer?

My Odyssey was my first exposure to gaming and really made me a diehard. My grandma worked for Magnavox so I had (and still do) every single game made for the Odyssey system. I played the baseball game on that religiously every day with my dad. As far as what games got me into different genres of gaming and made me a hardcore for each game type, here they are

Sports-Bird vs Magic on the Apple IIc. This was the first computer game I ever had and I loved it.

FPS-Half Life for PC. I hadn't really fooled around much with FPS till this came out and absolutely loved it.

RTS-Lords of Conquest by EA. I loved this game and played it for hours on end with friends and against the computer.

Flying Simulators-Falcon 4.0. I grew tired of Microsoft Flight Simulator since I couldn't shoot anything down. I also loved Top Gun on the NES as well as Afterburner and I'm thrilled that Sega may be remaking this one for the 360
